Bridging Opportunity: The Somaliland Diaspora Business Mission to Israel
The Somaliland Diaspora Visit to Israel, scheduled for October 17–22, 2026, is a six-day business and cultural mission organized by Israel-Africa Business Connect (IABC). It is designed to connect Somaliland diaspora leaders with Israeli businesses, investors, technology providers, policy experts, and institutions. The mission aims to translate growing bilateral engagement into practical investment, commercial, technological, and people-to-people partnerships.
Mission Objectives
The Somaliland diaspora contributes capital, expertise, entrepreneurship, and international networks to the home economy. The mission will provide diaspora leaders with a structured platform to pursue direct investment, joint ventures, and knowledge transfer. A central goal is to position the Berbera Port and Free Economic Zone as a trade and logistics gateway linking East Africa, the Red Sea, and wider international markets.
IABC will facilitate business-to-business matchmaking, leadership roundtables, site visits, and sector workshops. Participants will engage with Israeli venture funds, startups, industrial firms, trade organizations, and policymakers to identify commercially viable projects and establish lasting institutional relationships.

- Water management and climate resilience: desalination, wastewater recycling, irrigation, and drought-response systems suited to Somaliland’s arid conditions.
- AgTech and food security: precision agriculture, drought-resistant crops, vertical farming, and improved livestock processing for domestic and export markets.
- Energy and infrastructure: clean power, resilient grids, port modernization, logistics, construction, and free-zone development.
- FinTech, banking, and telecom: secure cross-border payments, digital banking, trade registries, remittance systems, cybersecurity, and telecommunications.
- Education and innovation: vocational training, university partnerships, research exchanges, incubators, and technical boot camps.
Participants
The delegation will include business owners, executives, investors, venture capitalists, technology professionals, community leaders, academics, and policy advocates from Europe, North America, the Gulf, and Africa. Business leaders will focus on trade, logistics, construction, and joint ventures. Investors will examine co-investment structures, infrastructure, energy, agribusiness, and financial systems. Technology executives will pursue licensing, pilot projects, and digital transformation. Community and policy leaders will strengthen cultural exchange, public diplomacy, education, and long-term diaspora networks.
Expected Outcomes
The mission is intended to produce an actionable pipeline rather than a one-time exchange. Expected outcomes include investment and joint-venture discussions, pilot agreements in water and agriculture, digital finance partnerships, and stronger trade links centred on Berbera. Participants will also explore a bilateral business council to coordinate follow-up, support regulatory alignment, and maintain relationships among diaspora networks, Israeli commercial organizations, and Somaliland institutions.

Six-Day Programme
Day 1 – Jerusalem: Arrival, Orientation, and Heritage
Delegates will attend a welcome briefing, review the week’s objectives, and participate in cultural and historical programming that establishes a foundation for dialogue.
Day 2 – Jerusalem: Policy and Institutional Dialogue
Meetings with policy and institutional stakeholders will address trade frameworks, investment safeguards, regulatory cooperation, Red Sea commerce, and the diaspora’s role in bilateral economic development.
Day 3 – Agricultural and Water Innovation Hubs
Site visits and workshops will showcase desalination, water recycling, drip irrigation, climate-resilient cultivation, and food-security technologies. Delegates and providers will identify potential pilots for Somaliland.
Day 4 – Tel Aviv and Coastal Infrastructure: Logistics and Ports
Sessions will focus on Berbera Port, the Free Economic Zone, maritime trade, construction, customs, and supply-chain integration. Structured matchmaking will connect diaspora business leaders with Israeli infrastructure and logistics companies.
Day 5 – Tel Aviv: FinTech and Innovation
Delegates will visit incubators and innovation centres, explore secure payment and remittance systems, and discuss technology licensing and co-investment with startups, financial institutions, and venture funds.
Day 6 – Jerusalem: Agreements and Next Steps
The mission will conclude with proposed memorandums of understanding, pilot commitments, and a practical roadmap for follow-up. Participants will consider establishing an Israel–Somaliland Diaspora Business Council to oversee projects, maintain commercial pipelines, and support future delegations.
