Cantor’s Candor On GOP ‘Anti-Semitism’

Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor looked downright uncomfortable Wednesday when asked by Politico's Mike Allen at a breakfast forum about anti-Semitism in the GOP. 

The Virginian tries to take a pass on the question but then hands some credibility to it by talking about a "darker side." It seems he's talking about the darker side of politics in general, but he does not back down when asked the follow up: Is he referring to the GOP caucus?

"I think that all of us know that in this country, we’ve not always gotten it right in terms of racial matters, religious matters, whatever. We continue to strive to provide equal treatment to everybody,” he says. Pressed further, Cantor simply clams up.

The National Jewish Democratic Council of course wasted no time trotting out a statement noting recent Holocaust comparisons by Republicans and Illinois congressman  Don Manzullo's remarks about Cantor's faith. "It's both admirable and disturbing in the extreme to hear Majority Leader Cantor's candid remarks regarding the dual challenges of racism and anti-Semitism that he has detected in the House GOP caucus," said NJDC President and CEO David A. Harris.
