Chanuka thought day 3

Each night now we have been lighting the candles. Fire has incredible power. It has the power to be destructive however it also has the power to light up the darkness. So to is it with our lives. Sometimes in life the flame will burn and we will feel inspired. However sometimes we will find that we are going though a hard time and will have many struggles, this could feel like destructive flame. However when we have difficulties there is always the other side of it. This side that lights up the darkness and brings warmth. These flames aren’t always big but when in the dark they have the power to light up the entire space.

In some places and at some times of year it can be extremely windy during the time of lighting the Chanukia. During those days whenever even a slight crack of the door opens the flames flicker threatening to go out, some even do burn out. However I think this brings the message of the flame even stronger. Sometimes in life the flame burns out sooner than we might wish. The inspiration fades and we can be left with darkness. However the light can never really leave us. The warmth of the flame is still there inside of us and can carry us to the next night or the next day when the light will come again. We can always relight the flame, it might not always be easy but it can always be done.

Perhaps this could be a reason for the miracle of the oil during the times of chanuka long ago. The oil showed a rekindling of the light of Hashem in our lives and the end of the darkness under the Greeks ruling.
