Cornell’s failure is a failure of elementary public schools

It wasn’t just Cornell. It’s all colleges. And it’s not just colleges. Because education begins in grade one.

The alleged perpetrators at Cornell figured that they could sneak past police, hide behind legalese, cover their tracks.

Cornell’s administration perhaps figured that they could control things and keep it out of the public eye. Cornell’s worst fear is a public scandal. It would affect donations and admissions and their reputation as an outstanding prestigious exemplary Ivy League college.

But what about morality? What about knowing the difference between right and wrong, and having the inner conviction to do no wrong?

These students were taught, in their school years, from grade one up, arithmetic, writing, reading, and so on.

But when it came to morality, to not harming someone else (even if you can do so when a policeman isn’t looking), these students weren’t taught, weren’t given a reason, why they shouldn’t do the crime.

So Cornell students walk into life severely handicapped when it comes to morality. Because they aren’t given the tools to help them make moral decisions.

The answer: a daily moment of silence in public schools. That’s what America needs. So that parents can tell their children what to think about during the silent moment, beginning with that there is One Who stands above, and conducts the entire world, conducts in detail, in the child’s own life, and the life of the child’s parents and household and friends, so then the child will naturally behave in a way that keeps the world civilized.

Cornell can serve as an eye opener.
