Cry The Beloved Country

Having spent the greater part of my life in South Africa, it pains me to write that the Rainbow Nation, that evolved from the horrors of apartheid, the liberation movement whose struggle culminated in a Democratic country, with one of the finest and most liberal constitutions, whose ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) has morphed into the most hostile government regarding Israel. How I regret casting my vote for this nefarious party in the first free elections in 1994 with the hope that a Mandela would guide that leadership imbued with ethos of morality and justice and make the promise of a “better life for all” a reality

In recent years many African states have established close relations with Israel who in turn have contributed to the betterment of African lives in many parts of the continent. Sadly South Africa stand apart from most of her brothers and try, with little success, to influence those with ties to Israel to reverse this initiative.

Anti-Semitism is infecting the world at a rate almost as virulent as the Covid virus. Extreme hatred fired up by the likes of BDS (or as they call themselves Africa4Palestine)

whose sole purpose for existence is simply the destruction of a single country and their people. This group, whilst professing to be a pro-Palestinian, human rights organization, in reality have no concern whatsoever for the plight of the Palestinian peoples anywhere, and even less for the appalling human suffering around the world. They use the Palestinian issue simply to advance their only single-minded agenda, an agenda of loathing and despising of the Jewish state and her people. This level of hatred knows no bounds, is highly contagious and attracts an evil cult.

When hatred ignites a cause, it becomes a most destructive force, as what humanity witnessed a mere 77 years after the greatest crime in history. When hatred obfuscates logic, criticism and truth, evil men will rise and find their true calling. There’s no shortage of malicious and immoral folk who find their home in the BDS coalition and no better a place than in South Africa where that same league of malevolence finds the ear of the ruling party and influences those immoral and corrupt politicians looking for a reuse to hide behind their venality, dishonesty and disgusting conduct, and what better than reproaching Israel.

The Jewish Nation State is the most convenient scapegoat for the BDS and their ANC cohorts who find solace in deceitfulness and slander, whose continued hostility to Israel in the light of genocide, suffering and unmentionable misery in places like Syria, Yemen, Myanmar, DRC, Afghanistan, and elsewhere (where the ANC government maintains warm relations), where unthinkable suffering of innocent people make daily headlines yet go ignored and unnoticed by the hatemongers of the BDS coalition and their followers.

The ANC’s mission statement “a better life for all” has degenerated into just the opposite. Every single function of government is on the brink of collapse and state owned institutions completely dysfunctional. Corruption on a grand scale is rife and a Judicial Commission of Enquiry headed by the Deputy Chief Justice, has recently issued part one of three part report relating to the findings of the Commission running into over 800 pages. This Commission has sat for almost three years documenting evidence of State Capture at the highest level of government and exposed the malfeasance of almost every high ranking politician within the ANC.

A country whose electricity generation grid supplied power to the greater part of Sub Sarah Africa. A country whose rail system reached beyond the Congo. A country that boasted the best road system in Africa, surpassing even Australia’s roads. A country who had the best and most modern Airline. All in complete disarray today. Frequent and intermittent daily power interruptions plague the countries economy. The first world rail system is today virtually non-existent with railway lines being stolen and stations ransacked to the point of destruction. Roads littered with potholes, raw sewage running through the streets of most towns and uncollected garbage piling up in the streets due to a lack of service delivery of the various municipalities. Water delivery in most towns collapsing and and and….

Almost 3300 schools in the country still have pit toilets, risking the lives of pupils, where little children have fallen into these cesspools and drowned. There are still schools with no water or other forms of sanitation. As for the quality of education even Desmond Tutu admonished the ANC, stating openly that “Bantu” education under the apartheid rule was better than what the ANC is providing.

This same ANC with their love for bling ,riding in their Aston Martins and Bentleys togged out in the latest Gucci and Dior creations while the poor of the country have to exist on social grants that barely cover their food needs for the month and youth unemployment running at alarmingly high numbers.

The ANC’s cadre deployment policy reaches every aspect of society, including the judiciary, where ANC politicians have made comments criticising those judges who still remain independent. The now retired Chief Justice participated in a webinar, being a devout Christian made a personal statement that he prayed for both Israel and Palestine.

His words:  in Psalms 122 verse 6 which says: ‘Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, they shall prosper that love thee’. And see, also Genesis 12 verses 1 to 3 says to me as a Christian, if I curse Abraham and Israel, God, the Almighty God will curse me too. So, I am under an obligation as a Christian to love Israel, to pray for the peace of Jerusalem which actually means the peace of Israel. And I cannot as a Christian do anything other than love and pray for Israel because I know hatred for Israel by me and my nation will, can only attract unprecedented curses upon our nation”.

The SA Judicial Conduct Committee’s (JCC), ruled that the Chief Justice must apologise for these “politically offensive remarks” within 10 days.

Juxtaposed is the South African Zionist Federation (SAZF) accusing the Legal Services Ombud, Mr Justice Siraj Desai of actions and conduct “entirely unbecoming of a judicial officer”, claiming he had for many years “plainly breached” the Code of Judicial Conduct. The accusation went further by claiming that Desai had been “involved in political controversy, misused the ‘prestige of his Judicial Office to advance his personal political interests’, failed to recuse himself in a case in which he was ‘obviously conflicted’, and involved himself in activities that ‘used the position of his Judicial Office to promote a partisan political cause’”.

Amongst a list of complaints by the SAZF Desai had made “inappropriate comments” in an interview on an Iranian YouTube channel in which he compared the Iranian Ayatollah Khomeini to President Nelson Mandela, describing both as “towering figures”. Once referred the U.S. as “The Great Satan”

During a Palestine Solidarity Alliance  protest described as “The Gaza Freedom March” in 2009 Desai formed part of the delegation of pro-Palestinian activists calling for a boycott of Israel, contributing to the drafting of that declaration.
Desai welcomed a Hamas delegations visit to South Africa in 2018
Hamas has made no secret of its charter of hostility against the Jewish people and working towards the destruction of Israel. A blatant abuse of his office, contrary to the judicial code by promoting a terrorist.

But to date hardly any censure of Desai, while the former Chief Justice is forced to apologise for exercising his right to freedom speech and religion. In a country governed by miscreants can one expect anything other than hypocrisy and deceit, where hatred is their guiding compass.
