Dear Jews, you must remember

This is the season of remembering.  We remember Pharoah.  We remember Hitler. And, betwixt and between we remember all the other despots who sought to destroy us.

And we remember those who saved us.  Moshe.  Schindler.  Ben Gurion.  Our heroes all.

This is not a political piece.  Not at all!  This is a piece about justice and principle and morality and righteousness. You can be a Republican or Democrat or independent. But, please be a good human being.  A good and outspoken human being.  Character counts!

Today we confront a new and terrifying despot.  And  many of our fellow Jews still cannot see the evil in front of their eyes.

Are they, then, the contemporaries of those who wished to return to Egypt?  Are they like those in Europe who said it couldn’t happen there?

What possible reason is there to support this evil man?  What possible reason is there to equate his mindless ramblings, self-serving all, for policy?  What reason is there to have faith in this faithless and immoral person?

Sisters and brothers, have you lost your minds in addition to your values?  Are you merely too afraid to speak up? Can you not see the horror unfolding before your very own eyes?

Dear Jews, what if we were those supposed illegals who’ve raised their children in the United States and are now living in fear and dread of deportation?  Millions of human beings.  People are not illegals.  People are people.  Can we , who were cast aside by the world, allow others to be cast aside?  What is wrong with us?

What if we were the American war heroes, dead and alive, repeatedly taunted by a coward who  dodged the draft?

What if we were the people of America being fed daily lies of gigantic proportion.

What if we were the hardworking civil servants whose loyalty to the government and nation is under siege?

What if we were married to the unfaithful husband who had a veritable business in buying silence of a string of mistresses?

Jews, you and I could go on and on and on.  You know it; and yet so many of you support this criminal.

I refuse to be silent. For the sake of my children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren I cannot be silent.

I beg you to speak out as well!  Speak for the as yet unborn who will read about your peaceful revolution against evil and tyranny.

Speak for your children and their children and their children’s children. In this way you will teach them.

Speak for your flock.  Those who work for you and work with you and those who respect you and those who listen to you and those who, in their hearts, know you are right.

Speak to those as yet unconvinced.  Those who believe in the disgusting phrases like lying press, witch hunt, Mexican rapists and on and on and on.  Challenge them.  Let them know that those who support such immorality and indecency are themselves immoral and indecent.  And these include so many many government officials in the United States.

Fellow Jews, let’s stop crying and be courageous and resist and speak out.  And continue to cry until we wake up from the nightmare.

Let’s reset our start buttons and show the despot that our Jewish values are intact. And let’s hope that our people and the entire world has suffered enough and that we will make peace.  Ose shalom!
