Do you realize you are much higher than anything in the created world
A Cheshbon HaNefesh (accounting of the soul) is an opportunity to recognize
who you are.
There are many different ways to perform a Cheshbon HaNefesh:
Consider these ways.
Bring them to mind.
Apply them.
They bring you closer to HaShem.
These ways will clarify your obligations to
HaKodesh Boruch Hu (The Holy One Blessed is He).
Here are two ways:
(1) Contemplate your essence
How you came from nothing
into the reality of your existence today.
You exist only because of the
kindness and generosity of HaShem.
When you do this you realize that you are much higher than anything else
in the created world.
Higher than animals,
higher than vegetation and
higher than inanimate objects.
Then you will thank the Creator.
He is exalted!
(2) An analogy explaining your relationship with HaKodesh Boruch Hu.
Imagine you are a little, helpless baby.
Your mother leaves you alone on the street.
You are abandoned.
A man sees you.
He has pity on you and
brings you into His home.
He cares for all of your needs.
This man raises you until you grow into an adult.
You feel a great obligation to Him.
You are willing to do whatever you can for Him.
You give great honor and respect to Him.
You certainly do not want to go against His will.
This is how you should feel toward
HaKodesh Boruch Hu who has
protected you,
nurtured you and
provided for you.
You are certainly willing to serve Him and keep His commandments.
Moshe Rabbeinu (Moses our Teacher) warns Israel
about this relationship with HaKodesh Boruch Hu:
“Is this how you repay G-d’s kindness to you?
You do not have
understanding or intelligence.”
(Deuteronomy 32: 6).
Do you sometimes sit down and reflect on all
the good things HaShem does for you?
What are you thinking.

Please share this with anyone
who might enjoy or benefit from it.
