Do You Remember the Truth About Gaza?

Do you remember 2022? The so-called “good old days,” before the war, when the world still repeated the tired narrative that Gaza was nothing but an open-air prison, and worse, when some shamelessly dared to compare it to the Holocaust? Do you remember how quickly people were willing to accept lies and slanders about Israel, while ignoring the facts that stood right in front of them?

Let us remind ourselves what the actual numbers tell us, not the propaganda.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Movement in and out of Gaza, 2022 report:

  • General goods: From Israel into Gaza came 74,096 truckloads of food, materials, and other essential goods.
  • Fuel & gas: Industrial diesel for the Gaza Power Plant flowed in from Israel — around 145.7 million litres in one year alone.
  • Petrol/diesel: Over 91% came from Egypt, and the rest, about 9%, from Israel.
  • Cooking gas: Approximately 92,000 tons reached Gaza in 2022, with 63% from Egypt and the remainder from Israel.
  • Exports (outgoing from Gaza): Gaza wasn’t isolated. In fact, 7,530 truckloads of goods left Gaza in 2022,  77% through Israel, 23% through Egypt.

Now pause for a moment. Does this sound like an open-air prison? Does this sound like a people “starving” under Israeli siege, denied medicine, fuel, and goods? The reality is clear: tens of thousands of truckloads of food, medicine, fuel, gas, and materials crossed from Israel into Gaza every single year. Even when Hamas was firing rockets into Israeli towns, Israel still kept the crossings open for humanitarian goods.

But the world didn’t want to see that.

Lies That Fed Violence

The Arab leadership, Hamas, and their international apologists fed the world a steady diet of lies. They told journalists, NGOs, and politicians that Gaza was suffocating because of Israel. They twisted facts, leaving out the vital truth: if Gaza suffers, it is because Hamas diverts aid, steals resources, and invests every dollar not in schools or hospitals, but in rockets, tunnels, and weapons aimed at murdering Jews.

And the world ate it up.

Western media repeated the propaganda, activists compared Gaza to Auschwitz, and international organizations turned their eyes away from reality. Worst of all, by spreading these lies, the world emboldened Hamas. The narrative of the “open-air prison” became a justification for hatred, for violence, and ultimately, for mass murder.

October 7th, 2023, was the bitter harvest of those lies. Hamas terrorists carried out massacres of civilians, kidnappings, rapes, and atrocities unseen in generations and still, instead of condemning the killers, much of the world searched for excuses.

Israel’s Reality vs. the World’s Fantasy

Here’s the truth:

  • Israel supplied food, medicine, electricity, water, gas, and fuel to Gaza.
  • Israel facilitated exports from Gaza so farmers and businesses could sell to international markets.
  • Israel allowed tens of thousands of Gazans to cross for medical care and treatment inside Israeli hospitals.

Compare that with Hamas:

  • Hamas stole fuel meant for hospitals to power rockets.
  • Hamas dug attack tunnels with cement that was supposed to build homes.
  • Hamas stockpiled weapons in schools and mosques, making its own civilians human shields.

And yet, it was Israel,  not Hamas, that was painted as the villain.

The World’s Role

Let’s not pretend the world is innocent here. For years, Europe, the UN, and too many so-called “human rights” organizations chose to believe Hamas’s narrative. They gave platforms to its spokesmen, adopted its talking points, and turned every Israeli act of self-defense into an accusation of “apartheid” or “genocide.”

But reality has a way of breaking through lies. On October 7th, the world saw Hamas for what it truly is;  barbaric, bloodthirsty, and genocidal. And yet, even then, far too many voices rushed to blame Israel instead of confronting their own decades of complicity.

One Word: Karma

Israel’s patience, its restraint, its humanitarian policies toward Gaza, none of it mattered to those who had already chosen to hate the Jewish state. The international community believed baseless lies, encouraged terrorism, and enabled the very movement that turned Gaza into a launchpad for massacre.

So, world, when you wonder why violence returned to haunt the region, remember this: you ignored the truth. You believed the myths. You rewarded lies.

There is only one word left for you: Karma.

About the Author
CEO of Time to Stand Up for Israel, a nonprofit organization with a powerful mission: to support Israel and amplify its voice around the world. With over 200,000 followers across various social media platforms, our community is united by a shared love for Israel and a deep commitment to her future. My journey as an advocate for Israel began early. When I was 11 years old, my father was deployed to the Middle East through his work with UNTSO. I had the unique experience of living in both Syria and Israel, and from a young age, I witnessed firsthand the contrast in cultures and realities. That experience shaped me profoundly. Returning to the Netherlands, I quickly became aware of the growing wave of anti-Israel sentiment — and I knew I had to speak out. Ever since, I’ve been a fierce and unapologetic supporter of Israel. I’m not religious, but my belief is clear and unwavering: Israel has the right to exist, and Israel has the duty to defend herself. My passion is rooted in truth, love, and justice. I’m a true Zionist at heart. From my first breath to my last, I will stand up for Israel.
