In response to President Trump’s peace plan, of which I am opposed and have laid out my reasons in a previous blog, there was an onslaught of negative responses filled with false history and blatant lies about Israel and Jews. Truth continues to be a casualty from those who hate Israel for no other reason than Israel is a Jewish state. Those who hate eagerly lap up the lies and spread the myths with no actual research done.
As a writer, I rely on a great deal of research in order to capture human nature and deliver a story for my readers to immerse themselves in. I do not simply accept what others say and always search out the root of the issue. Truth matters to me and blind acceptance of anything is not a search for truth.
Among the long list of lies was the statement that the Balfour Declaration included a partition of the land. Anyone who reads the Declaration knows there was no partition. All the land Britain referred to as Palestine was supposed to become a Jewish state. Not once is an Arab state mentioned in the Declaration.
The partition of the land was part of the UN resolution, which came three decades after the Balfour Declaration. The Declaration came about in 1917, The UN created the partition to create a Jewish and Arab state in 1947. Despite the ease at which one can search the truth, it is easier to simply accept the lie of a partition taking place in 1917.
In 1917, there had been increasing attacks against Jews in the then territory of Palestine. There was concern among many Jews living in England that the Balfour Declaration would lead to an increase in attacks by those who hated Jews. The attacks did increase, but not due to the Declaration. The attacks were already on the rise and nothing would have prevented the loss of innocent lives from occurring in the Palestinian territory.
Illegal settlements is another lie, since the settlements are on the land that was originally partitioned for the Jewish state by the UN. Jordan took the land during Israel’s War of Independence in 1948, which would have made any settlement built by Jordan illegal under international law.
The Six Day War resulted in Israel retaking the land that was originally partitioned as part of the Jewish state. Any settlements Israel builds in land originally held and retaken from Jordan is not illegal under international law. Not a single settlement in question is on land not originally part of the Jewish state according to the partition the UN voted for in 1947.
Calling Israel an apartheid state is not only a blatant lie, but also minimizes the cruelty of those who suffered under the laws in South Africa during apartheid. The laws in South Africa ranged from racial classification to where people of different races could live. They were quite similar to the Jim Crow laws in the American south, which included California, during segregation.
There are no laws preventing Muslims who have Israeli citizenship from doing anything they wish, so long as they do not violate any law prohibiting Jews and Muslims alike. Not one job is prohibited from being held by Muslims, including judges and members of the Knesset. South Africa and segregation in the United States had clear laws in place, but Israel has no law any critic can point to as evidence to support the claim of apartheid in the Jewish state.
Israel has been accused of wanting to bring about ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, as they are referred to today, and those who make the claim turn a blind eye to what Jordan did in 1970 – 1971. Black September was a reference to the actions the Jordanian military took against 2/3 of the Jordanian population who were forced out with thousands of civilians left dead in their wake.
The UN partition created the first two state solution, which was Israel and Jordan. It was the creation of a Jewish state and Arab state. Jordan was meant to include the Muslims who did not want to live in a Jewish state. Those who embrace lies and hatred of Jews have no interest in Jordan being held accountable for anything, since it might call into questions about the stark differences between Israel and Jordan.
The last lie I’m touching on, though certainly not the last spread, is that Jews want too much. It is not the Jews who have walked away from every peace deal, but those who refer to themselves as Palestinians who have refused to accept any deal. It is not the Jewish state that refrains from peace, but the Iranian backed terrorist groups, like Hamas and the PLO, who have chosen bombs over peace every time.
The Jews want to raise their children without fear of a schoolyard being blown up by terrorists. They want to live life without fear of balloon bombs and rockets being fired at them. It is the Jews who wish to live in peace and raise their families in a country free of terrorist attacks.
Lies about Jews are nothing new in the world, but access to the truth is. The internet has given much of the world the ability to research anything to find the root of any claim made today, but it requires people to question their own motives first. Those who are consumed by hatred are incapable of doing anything other than grabbing hold of whatever lies they can and spreading them like a virus.
This blog post will have no impact on those consumed with hatred, but there are those who are hearing these lies for the first time and are not entrenched in hatred who can benefit from these words. No one, myself included, should simply accept anything at face value. Search out the original sources and come to your own conclusions. Ask yourselves if truth has value.
