Don’t Look Down
So many violent attacks are happening against Jews in the US, it’s making my head spin and I can’t keep up. But then, if the New York Times, The Washington Post, MSNBC, CNN, USA Today, ABC, CBS, the AP and so many others gave a flying flamingo, maybe the antisemitic attacks would be mitigated.
The elderly, school children, college students, everyday Jews trying to live their lives were assaulted, beaten, stabbed and shot at in New York City, Brooklyn and Ithaca and Albany and Purchase and New Paltz and Rockland, NY, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, PA, Washington, DC, Chicago, IL, Ann Arbor, MI, Chapel Hill and Asheville, NC – a haven for LGBTQ – where assailants were hitting Jewish elderly in a library – Los Angeles and San Francisco, Boston and Cambridge and Amherst, MA, New Haven, CT, Nashville, TN, Princeton and New Brunswick, NJ – too many, many more American cities. Charlottesville, Virginia again – this time from the Left.
It’s not 2017. It’s not 2020. People are stuck in a time warp. It’s 2024 and the violence against Jews has increased by 900% in less than a year.
It’s coming hard at us from the extremely well-funded Left as much as the Right. They are neo-Nazis and neo and not so neo-Islamic Nazis. The majority of assailants wore keffiyahs, shouted how they wanted to kill the ‘f-ing’Jews.
And I honestly feel this Administration hasn’t done much of anything about it. Doubt the next – no matter who it is – will either. Trump’s record on this is utterly egregious, of course.
Walz gave a speech this week praising the keffiyeh fashionistas, Jew-hating protesters – who make no mistake – held up signs supporting Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Islamic Regime, signs calling to Globalize the Intifada, and on and on. Walz’s remarks were so extreme and alarming and gaslighting that the ADL called him out, just as they called out Vance for refusing to condemn Tucker Carlson trafficking in neo-Nazi rhetoric.
Whose side am I on? I’m on my side – a Jewish feminist mother of a Jewish feminist daughter. I’m on the side of Jewish survival and Israel’s phenomenal, constantly miraculous, thriving, survival. I’m on the side of intellectual, emotional and spiritual honesty. I’m on the side of being anti-human-ostriches. Ostriches can’t fly. And I want us to soar.
