In an increasingly polarized world, hospitality extends beyond mere shelter—it becomes a bridge to understanding, healing, and shared humanity. This has been the essence of our journey with Planet Zula (planetzula.com), a remarkable network of Christian believers who open their homes to Israeli travelers out of love for Israel, its people, land, and biblical heritage.
A Mission of Connection
In August 2024, my family of four embarked on an independent emissary mission, sharing insights about Israel through our professional backgrounds while traveling across five U.S. states and two Canadian provinces. Along the way, we experienced the warmth, graciousness, and unwavering hospitality of Planet Zula hosts. From the icy landscapes of Alaska to the sunlit deserts of Arizona and bustling cities like Vancouver and Seattle, we were welcomed with open arms and open hearts.

More Than Just Shelter
While the hospitality was unparalleled, the connections we formed were equally transformative. Deep conversations about faith, culture, and shared values turned our stays into profound learning experiences. It was fascinating to engage in thoughtful dialogue and discover common ground with hosts whose love for Israel transcends borders.
One of our most memorable experiences took place in Arizona’s Grand Canyon Village, where we were hosted for four nights by the Guevarae family. From the moment we arrived, we felt an immediate bond with them, deeply moved by their generosity and the warmth of their home. Their hospitality exemplified the spirit of Planet Zula, creating a safe and nurturing space where we felt truly connected and welcome.
During our stay, we had the special opportunity to meet BJ and Carissa, two of Planet Zula’s founding members. They had parked their RV in front of the Guevarae home for six months to meet Israeli travelers—embodying the dedication and spirit of the network. One afternoon, BJ and Carissa visited us at the Guevarae home. Our time together was filled with meaningful conversations, laughter, and a shared commitment to welcoming strangers with love and respect.

A Growing Network of Love and Solidarity
Planet Zula is more than a network—it’s a movement. In just a year and a half, it has expanded to 170 hosts across 13 countries, with 50 more currently being vetted. The hosting process ensures that families are well-prepared to welcome Israelis, fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Prospective hosts undergo interviews and participate in a training period to learn about Israeli culture and traditions. This preparation ensures that guests receive not just a place to stay but an experience of genuine connection.
Joseph, a pivotal figure in Planet Zula’s founding, has played a crucial role in shaping the network’s vision. His dedication to fostering relationships has been instrumental in its growth. Recently, he invited a guest speaker to discuss healing, further enriching the network’s mission. This focus on healing aligns seamlessly with Planet Zula’s goal of offering more than just a home—it provides a path to emotional and spiritual well-being.
Both hosts and Israeli visitors have the opportunity to rate their stays, creating a feedback-driven environment that upholds high standards and strengthens the bonds between travelers and hosts.
Carissa shared that since October 7, 2023, she and BJ have encountered over 90 Israelis from diverse backgrounds, each carrying a unique story, often marked by emotional vulnerability. In the wake of recent traumatic events, many travelers expressed an overwhelming need to share their experiences. The Guevarae family, along with the wider Planet Zula network, provided more than just shelter—they offered a sanctuary where individual visitors could share, heal, and reconnect.
