Perhaps it would be funny if it wasn’t so sad. A non-profit, non-governmental organization, called The Mossawa Center, the Advocacy Center for Arab Citizens in Israel organized International media training this week for a group of participants in the “Empowering the Periphery Project: Palestinian and Bedouin NSAs activated for Community Development”. Recognizing the power and importance of the media, the organization knows that the more training one receives with the media, the more effective they will be.
Donors to The Mossawa Center include the European Union, Sweden (via Diakonia), UK, Germany and others. Yes, you read it right – these so-called “impartial observers” are exactly those people say Israel should worry about regarding “peace” in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, the constitution of this organization states that “[t]he State of Israel was established on the ruins of the Palestinian people, for whom the event was a national tragedy – the Nakba.” Their constitution says Israel should not be a Jewish state and has actively campaigned against Israel’s citizenship law. How is it feasible that foreign governments can actively fund Public Relations campaigns by this organization which is devoted to destroying Israel? To fund PR campaigns like this one which is hosting training on “International Media, Social Media, and Social Networking” is simply rooting for (and paying to assist) the destruction of Israel.
Of course while it’s bad that the European Union funds Anti-Israel work, it’s even worse when Israel does the same. The State of Israel ridiculously funds Anti-Israel movies like the Oscar-nominated flicks “The Gatekeepers”, and “5 Broken Cameras”. Both received governments funding – yet both make Israel look like the devil and damage Israel’s standing in the global marketplace.
It’s one thing to not hire a PR firm as Israel should – but while the EU funds Anti-Israel PR activities and organizations, the State of Israel funds Anti-Israel movies. The State of Israel doesn’t have it easy.
