The Price of a Double Standard: Why Israel Must Be Flawless on a Global Stage.

Living as an Israeli, or standing up for the Jewish state as an advocate, means accepting an unspoken and deeply unfair reality. You are constantly under a moral microscope. For Israel and its people, the standard rule of human nature, that everyone makes mistakes, simply does not apply. Every poor decision, every ill-advised joke, every lapse in judgment, and every actual crime committed by an individual is immediately recorded, digitized, weaponized, and used to condemn an entire nation. The context is entirely stripped away, leaving only a caricature designed to fuel a broader, malicious narrative. This is the heavy, exhausting price of being Israeli in a world that is eager to find fault.

It is infuriating to watch how this plays out on the global stage. Consider the way anti-Semites and anti-Zionist activists manipulate reality to manufacture hatred. When the American criminal Jeffrey Epstein was exposed, the fact that he was an American citizen became irrelevant to the narrative builders. Because he was Jewish, certain factions immediately leaped to the absurd, malicious conclusion that all of Israel, and Jews everywhere, were somehow complicit or defined by his actions. This is the precise mechanism by which anti-Israel forces create and sustain animosity. They take the sins of an individual, link them to an identity, and use it to poison the minds of millions.

The old proverb states that trust takes years to build and only seconds to destroy. This simple truth governs the way the world judges nations, but it is applied to Israel with a unique severity. You can do the right thing a hundred times, saving lives through humanitarian aid, pioneering medical breakthroughs, and maintaining rigorous moral standards in combat, and the world will remain silent. People take Israeli virtue for granted. However, the moment one mistake slips through, the entire narrative shifts. Suddenly, the country is judged, accused, and systematically canceled by a global audience that has been waiting for a reason to condemn it.

This reality is something I know intimately from over twelve years of nonstop pro-Israel advocacy on social media. Day after day, I monitor digital spaces and remove comments from individuals who spread vitriol toward Israel. The internet is already overflowing with places where this hatred spreads like an infectious disease. On the platforms I manage, I refuse to tolerate this poison, so I delete it. Yet, despite thousands of positive, factual posts shared over more than a decade, the vulnerability remains. If just one post contains an error, or if one mistake slips through the filter, the internet wolves are ready to attack. It is unfair and exhausting, but it reflects the biased world we inhabit. Every single action taken by an Israeli, particularly a soldier, carries a weight that is completely disproportionate to reality.

We saw this exact phenomenon play out during the conflict in Lebanon. A single soldier, acting out of poor judgment or cracking under the immense psychological pressure of war, destroyed a statue of Jesus. The act was undeniably shocking and wrong. The global reaction was instantaneous. Outrage spread like wildfire, and the story became prime fuel for those desperate to vilify the Jewish state. In certain circles, the reaction was almost celebratory, as if critics were overjoyed to finally have a piece of evidence that confirmed their worst biases.
What the mainstream narrative conveniently left out, however, was the response of the state. Israel did not ignore the incident or sweep it under the rug. The military immediately took accountability, the soldier faced criminal charges, and the state committed to restoring the statue. Unfortunately, these facts never receive the same media traction. The accountability, the correction, and the genuine effort to make things right are completely overshadowed by the initial mistake.

This persistent ignorance makes advocacy incredibly tiring. For twelve years, I have warned about how seemingly innocent things can be twisted by propaganda machines. Take the example of children visiting an Israeli military base during an open family day. To any rational observer, these are beautiful, innocent moments of children visiting a parent or an older sibling in uniform. Yet, anti-Israel entities seize these images, strip the context, and use them to claim that Israeli children are being indoctrinated into violence, falsely drawing a parallel to the systemic, radical indoctrination found in Gaza. The nuance is completely erased, and a gullible international audience greedily consumes the simplified, distorted version.

We saw a similar vulnerability during the massive internal protests against Benjamin Netanyahu. While peaceful protest is a fundamental pillar of a healthy democracy, I warned from the very beginning that this deep internal unrest would be perceived as weakness by our neighbors. Israel is always being watched by enemies who look for any sign of division. When a nation’s attention shifts entirely inward, dangerous vulnerabilities emerge. The catastrophic events of October 7 showed exactly how costly those divisions can be. The nation’s focus was fractured, and the consequences were devastating. In hindsight, warnings about reaping what you sow take on a deeply tragic meaning.

This observation is not about pointing fingers or assigning internal blame. It comes from a place of deep love for the country and a desire for absolute honesty. It is a direct call for individual awareness and collective responsibility. Every Israeli must recognize that they carry the reputation of the entire nation on their shoulders. Every video recorded, every post shared, and every action taken on the battlefield or in public can be amplified globally to harm the collective.

Building trust takes years, but losing it takes a single second. That is the challenging reality of living in, and defending, a country that faces unparalleled scrutiny. Ultimately, while the double standard is deeply unfair, protecting the legacy and safety of such a remarkable nation is a responsibility well worth bearing. We must continue to stand up for Israel, remaining vigilant, unified, and unbreakable.

About the Author
CEO of Time to Stand Up for Israel, a nonprofit organization with a powerful mission: to support Israel and amplify its voice around the world. With over 200,000 followers across various social media platforms, our community is united by a shared love for Israel and a deep commitment to her future. My journey as an advocate for Israel began early. When I was 11 years old, my father was deployed to the Middle East through his work with UNTSO. I had the unique experience of living in both Syria and Israel, and from a young age, I witnessed firsthand the contrast in cultures and realities. That experience shaped me profoundly. Returning to the Netherlands, I quickly became aware of the growing wave of anti-Israel sentiment — and I knew I had to speak out. Ever since, I’ve been a fierce and unapologetic supporter of Israel. I’m not religious, but my belief is clear and unwavering: Israel has the right to exist, and Israel has the duty to defend herself. My passion is rooted in truth, love, and justice. I’m a true Zionist at heart. From my first breath to my last, I will stand up for Israel.
