It has been marked on my calendar for a few weeks: Eyal Golan concert at Town Hall on Saturday, January 11th, 2014 in New York City. For the last 15 years of my life I have seen Golan perform at least once a year – in New York or in Israel. When people ask me how I speak Hebrew, I joke “From Eyal Golan.”

Media reports are horrifying – the Israeli legend, Israel’s most famous singer, Eyal Golan is under house arrest. Golan’s father and friends reportedly located underage girls at his concerts, plied them with drugs and the girls then had sex with Golan. While his father, publicist and other members of the entourage are also under arrest, there’s no question Eyal himself also had some role in these heinous crimes. While there are questions that still exist, and he may ultimately not be charged, can anyone actually believe that 40-year old Golan was unaware of the girls’ ages as he claims?

Repeatedly and on numerous occasions having sexual relations with underage girls? His claims of not knowing ages doesn’t pass the smell test. Horrifying, gross and shameful.

While it is too soon to know if Eyal Golan will be found guilty in the court of law, there is no question Golan is guilty in the court of public opinion. 

As the father of daughters – and as a decent human being – the thought of clapping for Eyal Golan during a performance is a revolting thought. My children sang his songs with me on many occasions – I can’t see that happening again. Even if he’s ultimately not charged in this case, Eyal Golan is off the list of the performer I most wanted to perform at my 40th birthday party this summer.

Shame on you Eyal Golan.
