F35 Fighters

Though it has been some weeks now I must admit that I was initially quite surprised to read in the Israeli press that Israel’s taking delivery of her new F35 planes was delayed due to a heavy fog in Italy, where they had stopped en route to Israel.

I can understand that fog might have been a problem for the Wright Brothers and later maybe the Sopwith Camels; but for a modern multi million dollar plane in 2016 I would thought such adverse weather conditions would not have been an issue.

It is to be hoped that they never have to see action off the coasts of either Labrador, Canada nor Scotland !

Also, I found it quite surprising that such sophisticated planes would have been permitted to stop in a third party country, in this case Italy, rather than having been flown direct from the US facility to their foreign defence destination.

Perhaps my limited technical knowledge has left me with unrealistic concerns and expectations in such matters.
