Progressive academia indoctrination and void in religious faith are factors leading young people to socialism/communism augmented with virulent antisemitism.

We left Soviet Union close to a half a century ago, a decade before the “communist paradise” had fallen apart. The Politburo of the Communist Party of USSR was the only organ which had the power to dictate the policies and rules in all areas of population existence, be it ideology, production of goods and service, military, education and entertainment. The political opposition was brutally suppressed. Yet, in a short while the “bastion of the proletariat hegemony” had perished into historic ruins. Around forty years ago, I was reading articles written by people like me who had left Soviet Union for democracies of the West. The parents were lamenting and disparaging the education their kids are getting at the schools of all levels in United Stated and Canada. The writers of the articles had witnessed the devastating effect of absence of religion in lives of people in former Soviet Union and the void in faith produced individuals with flawed moral and ethical compasses.

We started our new life in the world of Western liberal democracy with firm conviction that the absurdity and lack of common-sense approach to everyday matters, the main characteristics of communist Soviet Union, will never follow us.

Yet, we were wrong.

In the last several decades the colleges and universities of United States and Canada went through significant changes conducive to the harmful ethos of Anti-Americanism, aversion to Canadian patriotism (under the leadership of PM Justin Trudeau) and antisemitism. An enormous bureaucracy of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) apparatchiks was created in government organizations, including in high schools and places of high learning. DEI practitioners see social reality as binary of “oppressed” and “oppressors”. They consider Palestinians as the oppressed one and Israelis are the oppressors. DEI marginalize Jews by classifying Jewish people as privileged representatives of white dominant power system. The anti-Zionist, anti-Israeli demonstrations on campuses transit into antisemitism and it was shielded and validated by DEI. American and Canadian campuses have become hotbeds of anti-American, antisemitic, anti-Israeli and anti-Zionists narratives.

While watching the well organized and massive protests by thousands upon thousands of young adults of various ethnic origins against America, Israel, Zionism and Jews, you wander what had contributed to their poisonous mentality? Who indoctrinated them?

Certain disciplines of social studies emphatically point to systemic faults in American and Canadian histories, such as colonialism, slavery and subjugation of indigenous people, while obscuring testaments to freedom and progress in the countries.

The study conducted in 2018 by Seton Hall University researchers, Mark Horowitz and Anthony Haynor, found that only one out of fifty sociology professors identify as conservative. The researchers were asking questions: “I support Marx’s dictum to change the world”, “advocacy and research should be separate for objectivity” and “more political conservatives would benefit sociology”. The responses of the Sociology professors provided evidence of why their discipline is leaning far to the left compared to other academic areas and why they are propagandizing their views on the students.

Many majors of American and Canadian universities, such as Social Work, Criminology & Criminal Justice, Education, Nursing, Urban Planning and Public Health, require or strongly recommend Sociology as a part of the curriculum, a discipline spreading inculcation of the graduate of these educational institutions with leftish ideas. The adverse effects of brainwashing by extreme liberal professors are evident by the statements of nurses who wish death to Trump and other conservative leaders.

In Florida, its Board of Education decided to exclude Sociology courses from the general education course list across the Florida College System. The State University System Board of Governors removed Sociology from the general education curriculums of universities for the coming academic year.

Although Trump’s administration is advancing policies to remove DEI bureaucracy from public educational institutions, the detrimental effects of the discriminatory concept will not disappear overnight. The survey conducted by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni in 2025, reveals that progressive professors are still propagating ideas of America being a land of systemic oppression. The questioning of two a half thousands of students of six public universities in Virginia produced a picture that the curriculums at these schools continue to advance the leftist narratives denying the notion that United States is a land of freedom and opportunity.

The official policies of Canadian government still promote the concept of DEI:” The Government of Canada is committed to making real and lasting change to create a workplace that is safe, inclusive and free of all forms of racism and discrimination”. The statement implies the presence of racism and discrimination in the country, against the reality of otherwise.

President of US Donald J. Trump declared:” We’re bringing back religion in our country” and “we must always be one nation under God”. The Religious Liberty Commission, established by President Trump’s executive order on May 1, 2025, had delivered draft report on June 26, 2026. It contained recommendations to enhance religious liberty in the military, education, health care and in other areas of life, including protection of parental rights. I wish the recommendations will be implemented, and the Ten Commandments once again can provide the impetus for human morality and ethics to children of the United States and Canada.

It would be irresponsible, while discussing the rise of the socialist/communist ideologies in United States, not to mention the important political partners of the extreme leftish movement, the Islamists. Zohran Mamdani, a practicing Twelver Shia Muslim, the official Shia religion of Islamic Republic of Iran, Abdul El-Sayed, a Democratic nominee in the 2026 US Senate election in Michigan and Hasan Piker, Twitch streamer, influencer and left-wing commentator, are eloquently propagandize anti-Americanism, anti-Israel and anti-Zionism. All three are unrepentant antisemites. At present, they use the socialist/communist movements as means to acquire power as Zohran Mamdani already did, he is a mayor New York City, the economic center of the world. We must remember what happened to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s partners of socialist/communist and just secular beliefs. They all were allies of Khomeini in their struggle to remove the Shah of Iran. After Shah went into exile, the Supreme cleric consolidated power and removed his former partners from power, while many of them were murdered.
