Fighting Gender-based Violence with Krav Magra

A South African NGO, Fight Back SA, is using the skills taught in the Israeli marshal art of Krav Magra to combat violence against women and children in the country.
The organization recruits volunteers to give group self defense workshops to girls in dangerous communities so that they can defend themselves in case of attack. It also creates resources and offers legal advice to victims of abuse.
Recently the Embassy of Israel in South Africa got involved with Fight Back SA to support the International Day of Eliminating Violence against Women and the start of the United Nations 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). This involved a donation towards the establishment of a safe haven center for women and children where Fight Back SA can run its workshops. It will also provide support for 1000’s of women across the Western Cape to receive additional training.
Deputy Ambassador of Israel to South Africa Mrs Hila Rose Fridman and Founding Director of Fight Back SA spoke to the New Blue Review about the work of the organization and why the Embassy has chosen to support this initiative.
