There is Racism in Israel but it’s considered indecent by most people. And it’s often members of one oppressed group lashing out at another.
Such a clear-cut case seems police detectives violently apprehending an Ethiopian Israeli high school student in Ashdod as his principal looked on.
Another recent case happened after Israel’s Minister of Defense resigned and returned to the Knesset. His plan failed to topple the government and win in the ensuing elections by sounding hawkish.
(There may be multiple reason why Netanyahu tried and succeeded to talk others who wanted to quit into staying but not Liberman.)
(Not only did his plan not work – it backfired. Deri, Bennett and Kahlon all ate humble pie and let Bibi win. Now, Lieberman is going checkmate.)
He started his time in the Knesset with a racist maneuver. He refused to sit next to an Arab Lawmaker.
Now, I don’t know if that is because he’s still in electoral mood.
Or in a bad mood because his plan didn’t work out.
I don’t know if he is a racist.
I know that Russians (he’s a Russian Jew) often are racist-like mistreated.
But whatever the case, his action looks racist and that counts more than what’s on his mind or in his heart.
The Knesset should not tolerate such behavior.
He reportedly earlier had said that his Arab colleague should sit in jail or Gaza. That is unacceptable language.
I want the Knesset Ethics Commission to punish him. He should get the yellow card. Meaning: one more such move and you’re out of here. Not just banned from Parliament but banned from politics. (In Israel, racists and racist parties cannot stand in elections.)
No matter how much trouble the Arab Nation has had, has and could have with Jews, this is not personal. Whoever thinks it’s personal is not just mistaken but also a racist. And can return after shaping up.
Is he so rich or healthy that he can afford to avoid the Israeli health system? Because there, Muslim and Jewish doctors, nurses, technicians and patients are mixed. If you only want a Jewish/Arab doctor/nurse/patient, not eat with “the other,” not treat them, not wait next to them, not be hospitalized in one room, not see them at all, then you really have a problem in Israel. Thank G^d.
But here is an excellent example of to what length one can go not to be cold to Gentiles without blurring the distance that Jews have to keep.
BTW: The idea that Israel should retake the Gaza Strip is ludicrous. Who needs their children to patrol the streets of Gaza? Give it as a present to Egypt! They know how to deal with terrorist groups and regimes.
And give the Eastern Jordan Bank to the Arab Palestinian People.
And we keep the Golan.
Problems solved.
Meanwhile, the Left still has no alternative for Netanyahu, so it has dusted off Barak – pathetic. They’re now dreaming of banding together, instead of one of them joining the government to get some of their important ideals realized. They rather just slander and kvetch.
