For a century, Israel was the only country in the Middle East without oil. What a bitter joke.
But it turned out all for the best. It helped us to develop agriculture and other technology, computer science, tourism, you name it.
It made that employment blossomed, despite heavy immigration. This unlike in neighboring countries, where only the richest profited from the oil revenues which gave very little employment.
And just at the moment that the world agreed to phase out fossil fuels, Israel discovered them too. People who hold that G-d doesn’t have a giant sense of humor have a lot of explaining to do.
Israel is exploiting both our own fields and our new technology, with pride but also with humbleness. And without any sense of ecology.
It’s like investing in skiing while all snow and ice are disappearing.
Without a sense of humor, there is no way to understand Israel. At 70 and counting.
