G & H = God’s Heroines (My Angels)

Yesterday I reached my intended goal of 850 articles. Originally I hoped I could reach 1,000 but realized that at my age it might not be a reasonable expectation.

I had written what I thought would be my final article but I did not transmit it to my editors. Instead, I asked them for their opinion. With apologies to William Shakespeare, I asked one question: “to send or not to send”.

G & H received my query. G is for Gordon (Anne) and H is for Herschlag (Miriam), both Ops & Blogs editors at the TIMES OF ISRAEL in Jerusalem.

For me, G & H are the initials of “God’s Heroines” for, in truth, they are both my angels.

When I wanted to give up writing (age, fatigue, weakness, lack of purpose, more excuses, etc.) these two angels injected me with renewed strength, meaning and purpose.

Their reply was swift and reached me on the wings of eagles. “You keep writing. You keep sending. We will keep publishing”.

I think that most other readers and writers will be unable to understand the depth that these words and sentiments have entered into my heart, soul and mind.

There is an old rabbinic statement of which I have been fond for most of my life.

“Dvarim she yotz’im min ha lev nichnasim el toch ha lev”…. Kind words which come from one heart enter into many other hearts.

The ancient rabbi who first preached these words would be very proud of angel G and angel H for proving the truth of his words.

So I have now deleted the original article 850, never more to appear, and have replaced it with a new 850.

First inspired by my beloved and sainted wife, encouraged by my younger daughter who corrects all my many computer errors, and now re-inspired by the two angels Herschlag and Gordon, Inc., four women have touched the heart of this one old man.

I am distressed and disappointed with our political system in Israel, with the vile name-calling, with the lies, with the “fake news”, with the corruption, with the bribery… one could go on endlessly… it gives way to the intensity and volume of the written word… some positive, most negative.

And I find myself guilty of the latter . I cannot seem to help it. I see the filth and the wanton hatred among members of our Knesset and party politicians.

Once it was Jew against Arab. Today it is Jew against Jew. What will it be tomorrow or after 17 September 2019? (Dare I even ask?).

I have never held political office. No prime minister has ever considered appointing me to a diplomatic post at the United Nations or at some country which might welcome my posting (a dream too late to come true), I am therefore left only with printed words in defense of the real Israel which I love.

So with thanks and with gratitude to G & H, God’s Heroines, my angels Miriam and Anne, and the editorial staff of the TIMES OF ISRAEL I submit article 850 for publication.

In gematria the numbers 850 equal 13. Thirteen are the shalosh asar midaya…. the 13 Attributes of God, the 13 Principles of the Jewish faith as written by Maimonides in 12th century Spain.

And as the Chinese may want to say about numbers.. “Ken yirbu”. May the numbers increase.
