Well-known are the attempts to kill off a complete People. The Jewish Genocide (the Holocaust), its forerunner the Armenian Genocide, etc.
These were efforts to make a whole People disappear of the face of the earth. As if their genes were inferior. As if genes determine who someone is. As if the essence of a People lies in its gene pool and not in its culture and mindset. Genocide and racism joined. There, mass murder is its tool.
But there is a second type of genocide. Let’s call it cultural genocide.
Cultural genocide doesn’t claim that the bodies of certain people are despicable — ‘only’ their minds. This type of genocide doesn’t try to extinguish a People by grand scale murder or sterilization but by wiping out and suppressing its culture, traditions, language, religion, and identity.
While Christian Europe tried to get rid of the Jews by mass murder and expulsion, in Muslim countries, Jew hatred translated more in rape of their girls, denigration of their religion, not to give them equal civil rights, etc.
The Yazidi genocide by ISIS was a combination of genetic genocide and cultural (‘reeducation’) genocide. The former consisted of murdering the men and impregnating the young women. They considered women just flesh incubators and believed that people come from men’s seed with the womb just being its soil. They also held them as sex slaves. Ugh!
The fundamentalist-Communist-Chinese State repression of minorities is mostly an attempt at cultural annihilation. ‘Dissidents’ are locked up by the millions in ‘educational’ facilities only to be let go when they complete brain washing and adaptation to the majority and state-approved norms. Thus, the Tibetan, Uighur, Kazakh, Han Chinese should lose their identity, Taoism, Christianity, Confucianism, Buddhism, and Islam should disappear.
Maybe this could charm still if it was reeducation of people who believe in violence, supremacy and other reprehensible ideologies and egotist liberties. But here, the genocide goes hand-in-hand with adherence to a repressive regime that tolerates no discernible freedom of thought, expression, the press, assembly, representation, or to vote or be elected.
Leaders of all mighty nations and ideologies are never satisfied by local obedience to their dictates. Also China tries to control and then conquer the whole of mankind. Drunk on power, it spies and arms that it’s scary.
It’s racism that tells us that we should protect us from the Chinese danger while not caring about 1,300,000,000 Chinese being repressed viciously.

We must step up our empathy with the Chinese People, in all its diversity, and begin to demand a move to full democracy and an end to repression. Same about Iran and so many other dictatorships in the United Nations.

Like most of his readers, he believes in being friendly, respectful, and loyal. However, if you think those are his absolute top priorities, you might end up disappointed. This short list doesn't mean to disrespect others who taught him a lot or a little. One of his rabbis calls him Mr. Innovation [Ish haChidushim]. Yet, his originalities seem to root deeply in traditional Judaism, though they may grow in unexpected directions. In fact, he claims he's modernizing nothing. Rather, mainly basing himself on the basic Hebrew Torah text, he tries to rediscover classical Jewish thought almost lost in thousands of years of stifling Gentile domination and Jewish assimilation.
