HaShem can provide you blessings even when you are not trying
Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky (1928-2022) says regarding
earning a living
(based on the Jewish
commentator Sforno):
You will acquire everything,
all of the blessings
without any effort
when you listen to the
voice of HaShem your G-d
(from Chovos Halevovos).
What are we talking about?
Your Money
Your Health
Your relationships with others …
If you really merit these blessings
they will run after you,
even without any effort (hishtadlus).
Even when you are not trying to get these blessings,
they will still come to you without any effort.
How can blessings come without your usual efforts?
The Torah gives a remarkable example:
What will you eat?
The Ben Ish Chai (1832-1909) asks on the biblical verse:
“What are you going to eat
in the seventh year if
you may neither plant
nor gather in your crops?”
(Leviticus 25: 20)
Note:
During the sabbatical year farmers are commanded by the Torah
not to work the land in Eretz Yisroel.
HaShem reassures you:
“Don’t worry.
I will command the crop
to produce for three years.”
(Leviticus 25: 21-22).
Even without working the land HaShem provides for His people
who have Bitachon (trust in HaShem).
The Ben Ish Chai wonders:
“It seems the great blessings
you get in the seventh year
come only after you ask
what shall I eat?”
The Ben Ish Chai explains:
“Why do you have to ask?
Why can’t you get the
abundance from HaShem
without asking what
am I going to eat?”
These concepts are further explained in our next blog.
Question:
Would you be able to trust
HaShem that your livelihood
will still be provided for you,
even when your normal means of support are not available?
Let us know what you think.
