The current wintry wet weather in many parts of Israel including Jerusalem prompted me to show you Elchanan Berkowitz’s beautiful YouTube video version of David Ben Reuven’s song, “Here Comes the Rain,” in which he returns to the rains of his youthful years in London and compares them with those of his life in today’s Jerusalem and Israel where the rain is comparatively rare, but is considered a blessing from Heaven and Hashem.

In fact it is one of his all-time favorite songs even though he sometimes forgets to raise his umbrella when he sings it under cloudy Israeli skies and gets soaked in the process.

By the way, do you know that this song is just one of Ben Reuven’s 250-plus songs on the YouTube. Not bad for an ancient Anglo oleh!

About the Author

London-born David Herman came on aliyah in 1966 after graduating from Cambridge University. In the 1960s, he founded the Good Times Publishing Company specializing in publishing newspapers in simplified English, French and Arabic for the Israeli school system. David currenty works as a translator, and is also very active in the field of songwriting and performing under the musical name, David Ben Reuven.
