Hezbollah didn’t join Hamas October 7. Why?

Here’s a possible theory.

Ego. It all boiled down to: “You won’t tell me what to do. I run the show here.”

All kinds of other reasons have been given: Hezbollah and Iran weren’t ready to attack then; Iran wanted to wait until it had a nuclear weapon; Iran and Hezbollah felt that Hamas can manage on its own; Hezbollah didn’t want to upset the Lebanese whose economy was suffering, and who had gone through previous hostility between Israel and Hezbollah; and so on.

But these seem like justifications after the fact, especially in light of what Hezbollah could have achieved had they attacked then. Israel was reeling in the immediate aftermath of the October 7 attack. An immediate attack by Hezbollah would have been overwhelming and devastating.

But they didn’t attack. Possibly, because Nasrallah and Khamenei were incensed that Hamas had dared to proceed on their own volition, without first getting their allies’ ok.

Of course, it’s just a possible theory. But in a region where many cultures exhibit feelings and statements of bravado and claims of superiority, it stands to reason that this may have been their first reaction.

Feelings of superiority, or even narcissism, have also been attributed to Trump. But Trump did many good things. He clamped down on antisemitism at universities, he supported Israel by sending weaponry and by bombing Iran. And he has done other good things.

Ego can be used for good, or for bad.

Napoleon was into himself, very egotistical, and he brought about much war and destruction. Trump thinks a lot of himself, and he has accomplished much good.

Ego, like everything in this world, can be channeled to accomplish good, or bad. Depending on how you use it.

A year ago Trump was miraculously saved from assassination. He realized and acknowledged that G-d saved him. And when a reporter asked him why G-d saved him, he replied, “To save the world.”

Napoleon was in it only for himself. So to gain absolute power, he killed many.

Trump is in it, beholden to G-d, with a mission to help the world. So he is using his ego and feelings of superiority in that direction.

In other words, his ego is being channeled to serve G-d. It’s almost a contradiction. He has an ego, but he’s using it to achieve so much for others.

Khamenei’s ego, (according to the above proposed theory), undermined him. So he failed to implement a strategy that could have made him win.

Ultimately, everything happens by Divine providence. It’s an amazing and complex world, where everything was created to achieve G-d’s plan, to make the world a dwelling place for His glory, where peace and prosperity shines and permeates everywhere, and where goodness triumphs.
