How do you get these blessings?
“If you listen to the voice of HaShem and do his Mitzvos (commandments)
then all the blessings in the Torah will come after you.
They will catch up to you.”
(Deuteronomy 28: 2)
What does the blessings catch up to you mean?
It sounds like you are running away from the blessings and
they have to catch up to you.
Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky explains:
The Torah teaches you
there is a promise that even without hishtadlus (personal effort)
all the blessings will still come to you.
There is a debate among Torah Scholars about Bitachon (trust in HaShem) and whether you need hishtadlus or don’t need hishtadlus.
There are two points of view on whether hishtadlus is required for parnossa (livelihood):
- The Jewish classic Chovos HaLevovos says:
You need hishtadlus (at least some). - The Ramban says:
“Someone who has true Bitachon does not need Hishtadlus.”
Rabbi Kanievsky explains these points of view:
“According to the Ramban
(Jewish commentator 1194-1270)
the blessings will catch up to you specifically because you are not doing any hishtadlus.”
When you do this you are relying only on Bitachon.
However, even according to the Chovos HaLelovos,
if you have true bitachon this is all you need.
Questions:
Do you feel you overwork to make your living?
Would you be able to relax and make a living without working so hard?
Would you be able to make a living with just reasonable effort
while trusting HaShem to provide for you?
