How do you reach your greatest levels?
How do you change your negative personality traits?
How does your soul get to Heaven?
You do not live only for fulfillment in this world.
Your effort and energy should also be for the world to come (Olam Haba).
This is the next world where your soul goes after it leaves this world.
Olam Haba is the place where you receive your reward for living a life of Torah and Mitzvos.
There you have unlimited joy from your closeness to your Father, HaShem.
This is only possible when your soul leaves the limitations of a physical body.
It is important that you increase your love for the next world (Olam Haba),
while decreasing your love of this world (Olam Hazeh).
These two loves oppose each other.
The more you invest in one love the less you are investing in the other.
In other words, when you love one, you love the other one less.
The same principle applies when discussing your soul and your body.
Both your body and your soul require care, attention and thought.
You strengthen your divine soul by training it with
Musar (Jewish teachings to live by) and
D’var Chochmah (words of wisdom).
This trains you to acquire good character traits.
You should also distance yourself from animalistic desires.
How do you strengthen and benefit only your body?
Live only for delicious food, drink, and comfort.
When you concentrate all your thoughts on the body,
you are then ignoring your soul’s needs.
However, if you only focus on your soul,
you will be ignoring the needs of your body and weakening it.
What is the right way?
Give preference to your soul.
It is eternal,
while your body only exists temporarily and disappears.
However, do not deny the body its basic needs.
Do not overburden it with physical demands.
Do not weaken it or
you will cause both your body and Neshama (soul) to weaken.
You will then not able to serve HaShem even spiritually.
So, what are you doing to acquire Olam Haba (Heaven)?
