How to stop violence in the US
It’s nice to talk about the need to have respectful dialogue. But how do you ensure that people will buy into that?
You can talk about eliminating guns. But half of America want guns, to protect themselves.
You can do this and that. Try this and that. But been there, done that. it’s been tried, and it hasn’t worked.
You want to really stop violence? To treat the cause and not the symptoms? To convince kids, as they grow up, that they should not resort to violence?
Here’s how.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe advocated instituting a daily moment of silence in public schools. And then to publicize in media, that parents can tell their children what to think about during the silent moment, beginning with that there is One above who guides the child’s life, and the lives of his family and friends.
And then we won’t need to worry about kids engaging in delinquent behaviour, let alone engaging in violence.
Catch them when they’re young. Give them a strong incentive to want to be good — because even if the police aren’t watching them, G-d is watching,
Educate children while they are small. Give them a strong reason to be good. And watch the world become more peaceful.
