If Ever You Were – Or Are Today – in Favor of a Two State Solution

Between October 1993 and January 8, 2001 – the month President Bill Clinton left office – Hamas executed twenty-one suicide bombings in Israel murdering and maiming well over one thousand people.
As recently as late last year, Bill Clinton spoke openly about why the Oslo Accords failed to achieve the outcome of a Palestinian state: Yassir Arafat’s refusal to accept one. Certainly, Arafat’s radical unwillingness to emulate Egyptian President Anwar Sadar is the most significant reason why a Palestinian state does not exist alongside the Jewish state of Israel; nevertheless, what Clinton might not have felt the need to mention was how Hamas tanked Oslo during those eight years even before Arafat could fail as a leader and leave his people’s desire for self-determination unfulfilled.
If ever you supported – or still support – a “two state solution,” you should positively support Israel’s present objective of destroying Hamas – thoroughly and completely.
The year since the 10/7 massacre has been astounding for an array of reasons, but – as one who lived through the Oslo Accords – the re-branding of Hamas boggles the mind above all. No one who lived through the 1990s Hamas suicide bombing campaigns – which, of course, continued during the Second Intifada (2000-5) – could possibly utter Hamas’ name without revulsion. While the act of murdering while committing suicide did not originate with Hamas, Hamas pioneered the “art” raising it to new “heights.” This era of terrorism – in the name of “Palestine” or for the sake of Islam(ism) – cannot be understood without Hamas’ central role as innovator par excellence.
A post 10/7 consensus has formed in Israel: a Palestinian state will not be formed out of the blood of those murdered on that infamous Simchat Torah. The seeds for that rejection were planted, however, from 1993-2001 by the self-same organization: Hamas.
As Hamas’ control in Gaza attenuates, the likelihood that Israel will destroy Hamas forever more appears as achievable as at any point since 1987. For those outside of Israel who ever – or still – support(ed) a Palestinian state, please welcome Hamas’ destruction.
