If Trump had been the WWII president, the Holocaust would have lasted longer

According to The Atlantic and based on several sources, U.S. President Donald Trump said that American soldiers who died in war are “losers” and “suckers”.

If The Atlantic were one of the many junk fake-news websites that litter the Internet, it could be ignored, but The Atlantic is where David Frum is a staff writer. Frum is a Republican and a former speech writer for George W. Bush. He has written several books from a conservative Republican perspective, including “The Right Man: The Surprise Presidency of George W. Bush”. The Atlantic also includes many other talented and well-respected writers, including Anne Applebaum, a senior fellow of the Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University. Jeffrey Goldberg, the author of the article in question is himself the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic and a recipient of the National Magazine Award for Reporting.

One would be a fool to believe that The Atlantic’s account of what the president of the United States said was fabricated. Also, as Chris Cillizza wrote, “Had this report come out about, say George W. Bush or Barack Obama, and they had denied it forcefully — as Trump has — it would be a near-certainty that most people (and the media) would accept that the story was just flat wrong. Because there was no indication in any of their past behavior that would indicate they might ever utter such sentiments about the military. That’s simply not the case with Trump.”

Trump’s attitude towards soldiers reflects his mental state, which his niece, a PhD in Advanced Psychological Studied, described as “sociopath”. Symptoms of being a sociopath include “lack of empathy”, “callousness”, and “irresponsibility”. To a sociopath, it makes no sense to put one’s country and democracy ahead of one’s personal interests. To him, it is simply senseless behavior.

In the context of history, Trump’s words bring up dreadful thoughts. It means that Trump has only contempt for American soldiers who gave their lives fighting Germany in WWI and WWII. It means that if Trump had been president of the United States during WWII instead of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, it is almost certain that the U.S. would not have entered the war.

In such a scenario, the only possible victor of the war in Europe would have been either Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler or Bolshevik dictator Joseph Stalin. The other consequence would have been that regardless of who won in the end, Hitler would have had more time to complete his “final solution”, i.e., the massacre of all the Jews of Europe, because even if Hitler had lost, it would taken longer to defeat him.

In light of this news story that is very unlikely to be fabricated, it is more than ever hard to understand how any decent person could still support Donald Trump. In fact, those who are “losers” and “suckers” are not the brave American soldiers who saved Europe from tyranny. It is those who today after four years of his lies, narcissism, callousness, and incompetence, still support Trump.
