In an Ideal World…

If personal/political desires were secondary to national priorities the Israeli political parties would all sit in a big comfortable room and work out the new government of Israel in the following way:

All parties would agree to sit in a coalition consisting of Likud, Yashar, Beyachad, The Democrats, Yisrael Beyteinu, Otzma Yehudit and The Religious Zionist Party. In addition United Torah Judaism and Shas would also join providing they accepted a draft law allowing their eligible young men to enlist in the military as all other Israeli citizens do. The Arab parties would be excluded since they can’t become members of a government that they don’t agree with and want to overthrow.

This would create a coalition of at least 88 members. The Prime Minister’s position would be relegated to a “steering” committee of the heads of all the parties who in turn would elect a working chairman that would serve for no more than two years. The steering committee would have the power of a Prime Minister. Decisions would be made by a two thirds vote or at least a majority. All parties would agree to abide by any decision.

Most of the Israeli population would accept this plan and the country would function much more efficiently. In addition, Israel’s enemies will have lost their compunction to attack Israel as they would see us as a united nation.

Oh! Where is Mashiach?
