In Loving Memory, Lusia Herzig
In Loving Memory of our Beloved Grandmother Lusia Herzig
(Lea bat Avraham)
I just heard the Nocturne* of Chopin
During my prayers, you played it once again.
I then saw you as many years ago;
In the dimension, a soul- thought aglow.
How, I now so miss your tender, warm smile,
Your wise words, quoting philosophers, while we walked through history, mile after mile;
You offered me jam torte and cookies in salon style.
Your gentle words of comfort and advice
Are so needed in this time of dice,
Played by the world powers with our life.
During the war, you were a graceful wife
To our grandfather of aristocratic soul,
And of noble character, for us, a model role.
(*The Nocturne in C minor by Chopin was written during the 1830 uprising, reflecting his sadness and pain for those around him.)
