In Space and Time, History Recorded Scenes

In Space and Time, History Recorded Scenes, Waiting to Be Transformed, Discarded

(Reflections on the Haftorah for Pinchas)

( Jeremiah 1:1-2:3)

All the dire predictions told, occurred.

All that could have been averted took place.

In space and time, history recorded

Scenes, waiting to be transformed, discarded.

The Divine Editor, Producer, Director

Waited for the earth’s writers, given choice,

To inscribe their narrative for the world stage;

And to set the scenes and compose background music.

Acknowledging that G-d created us to decide,

Yet, anthropomorphically painful to watch,

Recognizing that God’s blessing waited

To be bestowed sooner than later.

Mercy requires swift application,

Understanding that justice is temporal;

Mercy is eternal; otherwise, G-d’s loved ones

Could not survive for the future promised.

If only the concert could be harmonious

Throughout the symphony, awaiting

The world composers and instrumentalists

To hear the music of the spheres,

Composed at creation for humanity

To listen to the music of its conscience,

Destined for us and the world to be heard

For the lasting celebration, set to descend

For the prepared, Divinely awaited outcome.
