Michel M.J. Shore

In Tribute to Rabbi Daniel Elkin

In Tribute to Rabbi Daniel Elkin

(A precious memory from more than sixty years ago)

In tribute to Rabbi Daniel Elkin,

May his memory be blessed.

I have the fortune to know his family

And he left a treasured imprint on me:

Prayer as a living dialogue,

He would come to my home in Montreal

To discuss Elie Munk’s classic, World of Prayer.

His words were not lessons but encounters

With a young mentor, who gave of himself,

What each cherished the most, his gift of time

For me, nature’s Sanctuary indoors,

As Hasidim who worshiped in God’s cosmic Temple

I shall never forget his love of prayer,

Shared, bestowed to me as a legacy.
