Inches to Metric: Zionism Through Design

Inches to Metric: The Oxygen Mask

What would you do?

I’m an unabashed Zionist. I believe in the right of Israel the one Jewish country in the world to exist! As an Israeli American I find my situation this US election cycle more important than ever. This election is different. The stakes are higher. In years past we quarreled/debated amongst ourselves over the economy, social issues, defense, always The US Israeli relationship. This year I’m a one issue voter.

We find ourselves in a situation of global and historic proportions. Israel is a year into a bloody and horrific war we did not ask for, and have been told repeatedly by our warring neighbors that they will continue to fight until we are gone. Here is a short documentary about the late Yahya Sinwar the mastermind behind October 7. We are not going anywhere. We have no choice but to fight back and defend ourselves.

The current US government has been incredibly supportive of Israel. I cried when Joe Biden said unequivocally the US stands with Israel and has held that position this past year. It is a bittersweet blessing. Standing with the US as an ally also means listening to orders from the White House, always threatening Israel that the US will withdraw support unless they show deescalation.

We were caught off guard, shocked and stunned. As the year unfolded we had a few highs; a return of half the hostages, then last April the US along with UK, France, Jordan, Saudi Arabia all helped in deflecting a barrage of missiles launched from Iran, that would have been unthinkable even a few years ago. Israel has never had a prolonged war. Deescalation is never in Israel’s interest (click link for explanation).

Going Israeli

Recently the war took a turn. Israel showed the world what she is capable of; cunning, brilliant, strategic and brave. The world witnessed what “going Israeli” is. She took her destiny into her own hands and made decisive decisions. Exploding pagers, walkie talkies, targeted killings of known terrorists; basically crippling Hamas, Hezbollah, and rooting out the axis of evil, known as “the ring of fire.” Will the US let Israel finish the job? As I write this, Sinwar was just killed. I love Karma, it’s nearly a year to the day that he orchestrated the October 7 massacre. Let Israel continue do what it needs to do!

Upcoming election

Antisemitism, Anti Western/America is still raging. I do not feel safe going to most of our major cities. I’m grateful to be living in a bubble on the North Shore of Chicago where you can safely go to a rally commemorating October 7. Not the case in all areas of the US, Canada, and Europe, especially where there are large Jewish communities. Some municipalities are not adequately protecting their communities.

Who can bring stability to the Middle East and globally for world Jewry, which is spinning out of control? There is an ongoing debate on how to stabilize the region; a conversation with coffee around the table, pay the Iranian (head of the octopus) dictator an insane amount of money to appease him or peace through strength? We tried conventional appeasement with Hitler, he mocked the world then destroyed half our people and millions of innocent others. Who will the crazy dictators be intimidated by/listen to? Sen. Tom Cotton view of how to move forward.

No one seems to be in charge currently.

I’ve been waiting/watching Biden, now Kamala and Trump, to see how the next few weeks unfold. I’m not listening to endless hours of babble, accusations or politico speak. I’m watching what each one says and does regarding Israel and world Jewry. Dr. Phil on what is happening today in our streets. The silver lining, Bibi Netanyahu took the opportunity to go rogue with this tiny window of no one steering the US ship.

I will be a one issue voter this election.

I do not like either candidate. I wish there were other choices. Here is one of my favorite podcasts Honestly featuring Bari Weiss and Israel’s best friend, Douglas Murray discussing current affairs.

We decided to vote by mail, not being sure where we would be on election day, the US or Israel. As it turns out we were going to be in Israel but our flights were cancelled. I stare at the ballot like its the roulette wheel. If you happen to be in one of the swing states, please take this election cycle very seriously. I’m going to vote on survival for: myself, my family, my people, my two countries and Western civilization.

I’m sorry, all other issues pale in comparison if we are harassed, vandalized, blacklisted, censored, or killed and G-D forbid Israel is allowed to vanish. Our useful idiots rioting in the streets wearing keffiyehs over their faces, don’t seem to realize or care that they are being played big time. They will be used as human shields if Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, all Iranian proxies and Iran, have their way in the world, the same as Hamas has done with the Palestinians in Gaza. If our plane is going down, and each of us needs an oxygen mask, who will provide the oxygen?

Beth Kopin is a trained interior architectural designer from the US. She has experience in the design/construction world that spans thirty years, and works and lives in both Chicago and Arnona, Jerusalem. She commutes regularly between the two cities. She brings her work ethic, training and US standards to Israel. Beth has surrounded herself with extremely talented trades. Her design team developed a way to CAD (computer aided design) plans in both US and metric standards. This enables both the US born clients (some of which live in Israel, some as second homes), and Israeli trades to better understand the plans, ensuring a more fluid communication. She is able to help bridge the gap of cultural differences, manage expectations, relate often confusing metric standards, as well as all the basic elements of designing a beautiful and functional home.
