Investigation of 10/7 ‘not looking at political leadership’ is illegitimate
37 armed Israelis failed to stop 3 terrorists from murdering 17 in Netiv Ha’asara
‘The army is not looking at policies set by the political leadership. That way, it avoids conflict with govt leaders who have insisted such investigations must wait until after the war against Hamas ends.”
If this investigation is afraid to ‘look at policies (and responses) by the political leadership,’ it is only piecemeal and will never have authentic legitimacy. It will also assure the never ending war demanded by the Jewish Supremacist Right.
Pushing blame on local security, the overwhelming majority of whom fought back beyond heroically, or even IDF units and individual groups of soldiers who rushed to the scene but lacked coordinated leadership is disingenuous, to say the least. Even more, it is overtly dishonest and provides Netanyahu unearned protection. The soldiers wanted to fight and many did so anyway. One reason was that retired command officers put their old uniforms back on and headed South to help lead.
IDF surveillance soldiers had given repeated warnings up to the early morning of 10/7 when many died or were taken hostage. They were largely ignored. I strongly believe the lack of a coordinated response, disconnect and the subsequent sustained confusion was driven by badly perceived, maintained, and prioritized political decisions by Netanyahu and his coalition.
That so much of the IDF had been repositioned towards the West Bank was also a political decision and decidedly not one which was strategic or particularly logical. Netanyahu’s political goal to largely neutralize Hamas clearly did not work. But even when alternative data presented itself, it was ignored for politics.
Israel has had a reputation of comprehensive and honest self investigations over its history to include the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
The only apparent reason that has now been interrupted is political and the grotesque irresponsibility shown by Netanyahu who has blamed everybody else and forced resignations from among Israel’s most experienced and veteran military leaders while doing whatever he can to remain in the PM office.
Netanyahu must resign immediately and take his Faustian coalition with him.
