Is American Democracy A Thing of the Past?

Democracy Was on the Ballot in November—Until It Wasn’t

Leading into the recent lopsided election—where false hope was on the ballot—my mantra was simple: Be a one-issue voter. While Joe Biden was still in the game, democracy was on the ballot. It was the most talked-about issue, the rallying cry to keep Trump out of the White House.

Then Joe backed out—or was he bamboozled? Political pressure mounted. And let’s be honest: the man was entirely out to lunch, manipulated by his family and a handful of far-left, antisemitic handlers.

Let’s be clear: keeping Joe Biden in the White House for a second term would’ve been its own kind of democratic breakdown. Secrets were kept from the people until it was too late. The manipulation was an abomination. The system didn’t correct itself—it buried the truth and prayed we wouldn’t notice.

So we pivoted. From fighting to keep democracy alive to what felt like Kamala Harris’ Oprah-style giveaway campaign. “You get a car! You get a car!” Or the equivalent therein, based on who was in the audience. Rose gardens promised. There was something for everyone. It was the ultimate kiss-up tour—pandering to every sect of the Democratic coalition with a long list of “I’m gonnas” that would never come to pass even if she had won. By November 5, democracy had quietly fallen off the wish list because the laundry list of campaign promises took center stage.

Women’s rights (rightfully) became the new rallying cry. I mean—female candidate versus a convicted sexual predator? The contrast couldn’t be clearer. Social Security—for present company included—mattered. Health care, the price of eggs (lest we forget that little ditty), rose to the top of the wish list. Not to mention the nonstop sucking up to the many ‘diverse’ politically correct sectors fluent in the Democratic Party’s language of proper-speak.

[SIDEBAR] There’s a social media campaign called #WalkAway, where people deliver monologues about why they left the Democratic Party—or why the Democratic Party left them.

CUT TO: Now that Trump is doing exactly what he campaigned on—taking a wrecking ball to everything we know—we hear Democrats screaming “Save our democracy!” Meanwhile, they’re also shouting “Eat the rich!” and “Down with the oligarchy!” Somehow, none of it is resonating.
Case in point: 36,000 people showed up to the Bernie Sanders and AOC rally in Los Angeles. A pittance compared to January 21, 2017. That should tell everyone—left, right, and center—that no one has a monopoly on the “right side of history.” The entire political spectrum is feckless. Both sides. Groveling for cash. Lost in their delusions about what democracy actually is.
