Small exception: We don’t want to include those who can show that they resisted a court order that itself is against equality for the law. But we do include those who argue the courts have too much power. No official is above the law. Democracy doesn’t need to give power to anti-democrats.
Freedom of speech, free movement, free assembly, free press, and the like are not stand-alone privileges and rights. They are a package deal with democracy. You can’t spread your disagreement with equality or the rule of law and then vote for, run for, or hold public office against equality.
And I am sure the large percentage of those who declared in a poll that an autocratic government is better than a parliamentary democracy then only meant an autocratic government from the people they want in office.
Israeli democracy is safe because our police and military are entirely for democracy and for serving the public, and not for autocratic leaders.
And, in this good news, part of the Right is moving towards democracy.
