‘Israel will face massive climate disasters this summer’

Politicians misunderstanding climate containment can’t push for it

Israel’s president said the above at a Climate Forum meeting at his official residence, and no one publicly responded to some of the vital imperfections.

1. There is a great difference between climate and weather. Weather is what it looks like outside; climate is the average weather pattern.

2. Israel making a greater effort to lower climate change would do nothing. We can only make a difference if we press especially the rich countries to stop their climate abuse including dumping their waste in poor countries.

That means going against Trump—a difficult path for a president who needs to stay out of politics and only can express the united Israeli voice.

3. Amidst global drought, in the past winters, miraculously, the normal amount of rain fell in Israel’s North where we collect water for the whole year. However, that does nothing for trees in the wild in the rest of Israel.

Again, miraculously, this year, strangely, most water fell in the rest of Israel, where Nature needs it. We now have enough desalination plants so that humans are independent of rainfall. This year, we can even pump desalinated water into the Sea of Galilee to keep it ecologically healthy.

Presently we’re safe, also thanks to the previous governments’ foresight.

The only thing we could do better is to push in the international arena for the global reduction of CO₂ and finding alternative energy sources. Israel needs to do that at home and go against the greed of the big polluters internationally—to save nature and humanity—but in Israel we are safe.

That is difficult to sell to the Israeli public.

A. A great part of the world agrees with genocide on the Jews right now (Chamas), and we should care about human extinction in 30 years?

B. There still is a worldwide push to exterminate the Jews and we should care about humanity?

Yet, that has always been the Jewish predicament. We are hated for our moral message, but that doesn’t mean we should shut up or not care.
