Israeli government’s short sightedness

The current government has little appreciation for future political forces. Israel cannot exist in a vacuum, yet some on the extreme right, and also in the Heradi representation seem to ignore this simple fact. Briefly, consider the relationship with the United States. Israel benefits from US military support allowing it to replenish its weapons systems, particularly its defense systems. Funds are provided to Israel to make such purchases and in some cases, as in the Gaza and Iranian wars both administration provided essential help. In the former case movement of ships in position to help knock down Iranian incoming missiles, and in the latter the bombing of the reactor. However, the US is also a prime target for Israel trade, particularly in high tech, pharmaceuticals, and medical technology. Moreover, much tourism eminates from the US.

Here is a reasonable truth about US politics, the political parties in charge change like clockwork. From the early fifties onward it was rare that a party would hold power for more than two terms. Yet, the present administration appears to operate as if the current US administration will be there forever. Bibi has made strategic efforts in throwing support behind Trump while distancing himself from Democrats, One can praise a President for decisive action, quite usefully, but lauding over someone flies in the face of the opposition. Yet, even as it embraces the current administration the far right in the current government ignores how much damage they are doing to even this most friendly of governments. Huckabee would be hard to upset, but the failure to tackle settler extremist attacks on West Bank villages, some Christian, failing to apologize for a church bombing until demanded, failing to tackle those who spit on those of other faiths, succeeds in weakening even these current binds. Bibi to stay in power has allowed his radical right to set a tone where actions against their constituent supporters are absent, not even a stern scolding is evident, even as such actions have the potential to they  uproot even Hickabee’s support.

Moreover, down the line the political makeup of the voting public in the US  is going to change, on both on the left and the right. However, our government blissfully ignores these changes, acting as if US support is constant. Worse yet are the suggestions on the far right that we can go it alone , or that Hashem will somehow save us. This is vacant straggly, which emanates from a smugness, which in the end has the potential to undermine our much needed support.
