It is the time for Israel to think of unpredictable results of the US election of 2028
The time is right for Israeli leadership to think of the unpredictable results of the US Presidential election of 2028 and to act preemptively.
On December 4, 2025, Trump’s administration released National Security Strategy. Primary objective of Trump’s administration in the Middle East region is a new regional architecture where Israel is seen as a US interest and a central partner. The same source emphasizes that “the Trump administration’s actual policy present Israel with a short, focused window of opportunity- lasting at most around three years, and potentially less- during which Washington is particularly committed to Israel.”
Although the leadership of Republican party is overwhelmingly supportive of Israel, there are voices in the conservative movement of MAGA questioning the commitment of United States to Israel. Some of them do not see the concept of America First being in line with the support for Israel. Tropes of old-fashioned antisemitism’ and new baseless claims of crimes committed by Jews and Israel, are venomously propagated by Tucker Carlson and Candice Owens.
Tucker Carlson, the owner and host of the influential conservative podcast, openly calls for termination of friendly and cooperative relationship with Israel. On the Shawn Ryan Show, he used pseudo-philosophy to present Zionist, Israel, the Jewish state leader, Benjamin Netanyahu and mainstream Jews in general, as enemies of Western civilization. Claiming that everything connected to Judaism is based on the “identity politics’, ‘tribalism’ and ‘group supremacy’, the former Fox News host, invented outrageous theories denigrating the teachings of the faith which gave the humankind the foundational building blocks of Western civilization.
To ignore the actions of the antisemitic agitators like Tucker Carlson and Candice Owens, is near-sighted and irresponsible. Carlson’s podcast has an audience of thousands upon thousands of listeners, including young people, who can be easily influenced by his antisemitic ideas.
There are instances when the Judeo-Christian tradition and its commonality of faiths are questioned and this leads to religious trends favoring hatred of Jews and Judaism. The article, describing the battle over Israel within the Republican party, has a response of the US Vice President JD Vance to the question posed by the young participant of the Tuning Point USA event honoring Charlie Kirk’s life. “The person posing the question framed his doubts as a “Christian… confused why there is this notion that we might owe Israel something.” JD Vance, a devoted Catholic, acknowledged the religious disagreements between Jews and Christians. He stressed that US support for Israel is based on common interests between two countries only. Vance’s did not mention the common democratic values shared by two countries and omitted the fact that Israel is the only liberal democracy in the Middle Eastern region.
As of now, the Republican politicians and the party’s leadership is overwhelmingly pro-Israel and opposes antisemitism publicly. But the history shows that movements seldom become radicalized from the top down-“They radicalize from the cultural ecosystem outward-and that ecosystem today is dominated by podcasters, influencers and online personalities who face little accountability”.
JD Vance’s reluctance to tell the truth is related to the 2028 Presidential election. As the current frontrunner to be a 2028 Republican nominee, Vance understands that significant number of young conservatives are radicalized online and Vice President does not want to antagonize them. This political calculation portrays an unprincipled leader at the helm of the US government if JD Vance succeeds in 2028 Presidential election.
In less than three years, after 2028 US Presidential election, Israel may face hostility and indifference from political movements on the left and right. Leadership of the Democratic party may accept the ideology openly rejecting the Jewish state, reflecting the views of the squad, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and the mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani.
The fracture in the Republican party, caused by issue of the place of Israel in US foreign policy, may grow wider.
The Jewish state should be prepared to counteract the actions of antisemitic progressives and conservatives. The article, published by The Institute for National Security Studies, provides policy recommendations for the state of Israel preemptively encounter the adversarial circumstances outlined above:
To “work with President Trump to contain the spread of antisemitic and anti-Israel sentiment within MAGA. Israel and its leadership have demonstrated over the last year that they have the ear of President Trump and his advisors. This access could be used to discuss measures aimed at containing and delegitimizing the worst expressions of antisemitism and anti-Israel conspiracy mongering.”
To “shift the “special relationship” away from US sponsorship towards a strategic partnership. Israel should work toward a future Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that gradually reduces the US financial contribution while strengthening the security partnership in ways that better reflect the reciprocal nature of the alliance.”
To “make intensive effort to restore bipartisanship support. Israel must work to reaffirm support for its core interests among as broad a range of legislators and opinion makers across the American political spectrum.”
To “show support for, and listen to, American Jewry. Israel on its own cannot solve the problem of antisemitism. What Israeli officials can do, however, is listen to the concerns of American Jewry. Having listened, it is possible that some promising avenues for action will emerge.”
It is worthwhile to note the wish of Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, for Israel to develop its defense industry to be self-sufficient to ensure Jewish state security.
