It was a Bank Robbery, Thank G-d!
Hi! How is everyone? I’m not sure if it was just life or writers block but I have not blogged in a while. But after a quick conversation with my husband I could not wait to get back to the computer keys.
Here is the situation that brought me here today. My husband read that someone said they saw six police cars and caution tape near a very familiar place to us. This was near the Shul where our kids had their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Our heads went to the same place and without speaking it was as if our hearts were beating out of our chest. After scrolling and looking on our neighborhood alerts we learned a bank in the area had been broken into. The Shul was not the target and was unharmed. I’m going to need a minute for my blood pressure to regulate. Let me tell you why.
Today is Saturday. For those who do not know Saturday is Shabbat A day when many Jewish families are at Shul. Kids are running around while moms and dads are reflecting and enjoying the beauty of the Sabbath. The thought of an attack at a synagogue close to our hearts was all consuming for those moments.
Did we over react? Have you watched the news? Have you read the paper? Anti semitism is everywhere. My question is how could we not? There was a time when I would not have even noticed a police presence. That time is long gone. Society has filled our today’s with looking over our shoulders because of who we are. We now have armed guards as we go to a Friday night service or a gathering. We pray our kids will be safe at school.
So I ask one final question.. What kind of world are we living in when I can be relieved that criminals broke into a bank? It is a world that has put us in a bubble and forced us to show strength everyday, to show how we get up when we have been kicked down, and to speak up when others want us silenced. And it is a world that makes us sigh with relief knowing we were wrong because it was just a bank robbery, thank G-d!
Xoxo
