It’s a National Disgrace!

It’s a national disgrace on many levels. It’s disgraceful that every Jewish politician, with minor exceptions, and every Jewish party accepts it without speaking out against it. It’s a disgrace that the media accepts it as a norm with very few speaking up against it. It’s a disgrace that the public accepts it as normal and isn’t protesting it in the streets. It’s a disgrace that the Supreme Court does not automatically reject it out of hand, but has to discuss it.

Can you imagine the outrage in Israel, at every level, from every politician, from every national leader, from every rabbi, from every Jewish home, if tomorrow the American Republican Party declared that America is only for Christians? That the Republican Party will not accept, support, or nominate for office Jews and other non-Christians? Can you imagine the public protest all over Israel if Republicans insisted that participation in politics, leadership, and governing is reserved for Christians and Jews are not welcome to participate?

That is in effect what almost every Jewish Israeli and almost every Jewish, self-declared Zionist party accepts as a norm by stating, up front, that they will not form a coalition with Arab parties. Virtually every journalist, analyst, and political commentator accepts this as the norm. In September 2026, Israel’s Central Elections Committee attempted to ban major Arab-majority parties from participating and running in the October 2026 elections. It took an appeal to the Supreme Court to overturn that ruling. That too is disgraceful.

The Israeli media, almost without exception, accept Jewish politicians and parties that have no shame in stating that they will not form a coalition with Arab parties. They are in effect stating that politics and governing are reserved for Jews. Have they no shame in making such proclamations? Obviously not.

Do they have no understanding that this gives fuel to those who say Israel is racist and bigoted?

Why do the media and others not call this national disgrace out for what it is, disgraceful and unfitting of a country that claims to live by Jewish principles. Even worse, is the fact that diaspora Jews and Jewish leaders, by and large, accept this disgraceful behavior as a norm and don’t call out the racism and bigotry expressed by those positions.

Declaring, a priori, that Arabs have no place in national civic life, is yet more bigotry, systemic discrimination, marginalization, and refusal to accept that non Jews in general and Arabs in particular are not equal Israeli citizens with every right to participate in Israeli civic life. Automatically excluding more than 20% of Israeli citizens from full participation in politics and governing weakens Israeli claims of being a democracy. It is not democratic to a priori exclude more a fifth of all citizens from full participation in the process.

What will it take for Israeli and world Jewry to recognize this shameful behavior for the national disgrace it is?

In short: Have they no shame? It’s a national disgrace!
