Just do it
Voting doesn’t mean a darned thing in Israel, the only Democracy in the Middle East, so next time I probably just won’t bother. It doesn’t matter who you vote for, you’re going to get politicians who do the opposite of what the voters want.
Do we want the government to release terrorists? Nope. But that’s what we get.
Do we want to play more of the Land for Peace game and win thousands of rockets on Southern Israel? No. But that’s what we get.
Do we want to give up Judea and Samaria, the biblical heartland of the Jewish people? Nope, but that’s probably what we’ll get.
In the last election I voted for the guy I thought would quit the government if the government did something I didn’t like, such as releasing terrorists (or any of the other things mentioned above, for instance). At least then there would be protest power to my vote. But the guy I voted for, like all the other guys I’ve voted for in the past, did no such thing.
He issued lots of sound and fury signifying nothing. He went to bed with the guy I least wanted to vote for. But he does give great soundbyte.
Dang.
End of vent.
Moving right along, Deputy Defense Minister, MK Danny Danon (Likud) issued this statement today, “In the last few weeks, the mask has been removed from the face of Abu Mazen, and it Is clear that nothing will come of the negotiations. I will not sit in a government that releases terrorists in exchange for Tzipi Livni’s fantasies,” said Danon. “There is a limit to how much we can pay, like suckers, in return for the smiles of Livni and Erekat.”
I’m sorry (not really), but this is a load of bull pucky. Danny Danon has sat in this government as it did just that. He sat in it through two separate mass releases of bloody-handed terrorists. And Abu Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas) has no mask and has never had a mask.
He never, for instance, agreed to recognize Israel as a Jewish State. He won’t give up the right of return. He insists that “East Jerusalem” will be the capital of “Palestine.”
In fact, the only thing he has ever agreed to do is say no. On multiple occasions.
It is Netanyahu whose mask has been removed, but that is ancient history, as Mr. Danon well knows. Netanyahu agreed to a two-state solution. He released terrorists. He froze construction in Judea and Samaria. He held back from attacking Iran. Like Pinocchio’s nose, his red line grew with every visit to Washington.
So what exactly is Danon’s intent here? Why is he making this statement now?
There is nothing and no one left to unmask. No mask graces the face of Abbas. No masks grace the faces of Netanyahu, Livni, or Erekat. No mask graces the “peace talks.”
As such, what is the purpose of these uttered words? Terrorists HAVE been released. Abbas NEVER agreed to negotiate. Has Danon been able to stay Netanyahu’s hand? Livni’s hand? Has he been able to stop the mass release of terrorists the last two times around?
No. It’s just more sound and fury. Signifying nothing at all except a power play.
We are not impressed.
If Danon were serious, he’d take a tip from Nike and Just Do It.
