Kosher Barbie, Israel Beauty Queen on Fifth Avenue: Identity as Living Language
Today, I step onto Fifth Avenue as Miss Israel World International, with a design inspired by Israel’s 78th birthday celebration cake, but also as “Kosher Barbie”—a fashionista wearing identity as a message, not just a look.
For the Israel Day Parade in New York, I created a symbolic gown inspired by that same celebration: a dress that begins in expressive pink and transforms into the blue and white of the Israeli flag, centered with the Magen David.
Some may see it as fashion. I call it language. Because clothing, like identity, speaks—sometimes louder than words. It says that identity is not something we reduce. It is something we layer.
We are often taught, subtly and directly, that we must choose:
between modern life and tradition,
between who we are and who we are allowed to be.
But walking through New York—a city built entirely on layered identities—I see something different. I see proof that we are not meant to be simplified. We are meant to be integrated.
This year, I was invited to march in the Israel Day Parade alongside Israel’s Consul General Ofir Akunis. The moment carries an even deeper weight. In a time when antisemitism in New York has risen to levels not seen in years, and amid reports that the Mayor of New York City has chosen not to attend for the first time, we are reminded how important visibility and leadership truly are.
This is why we are calling on all leaders to show support. Because this parade is not only a Jewish event—it is a New York event. It reflects how we shape the future of coexistence, where Jews can live openly and safely in their daily lives—whether wearing Jewish symbols, walking through their neighborhoods, or simply taking the subway without fear.
It is generations of students, families, community leaders, and organizations who have built a bridge between America and Israel—not only through politics or diplomacy, but through culture, education, friendship, and daily life.
Today, that bridge is visible.
It is visible in blue-and-white flags standing beside American flags. It is visible in thousands of people refusing to shrink their identity in public space—and that is the point.
Be proud of who you are. Be visible in who you are. Do not shrink to make others comfortable. That is what “Kosher Barbie Fashionista” represents to me. Not a contradiction. A bridge.
And today, that bridge is walking through New York City in blue and white—bold as the Israeli flag, alive in every step.
