Leeor Mekahel….”.When Feminism Chooses Power Over Women” 12/31/25

I came across this old blog and though it’s last years stuff on the one hand it brings up features I intend to tackle about our Feminism. To begin with I was one of the originl marches, with Betty Friedan in her very first march down Fifth Avenue, and remember the spirit of those days which is impossible to translate into this age. Because I wittnessed it I continue; Leeor should have said ‘When Feminists’- not feminism- because actual people are writing saying and publishing; and it’s our job to name them.

The 1960’s began the protests for Liberation and the subsequent networking funding and consolidating of the various powers figures groups and their financing of the political, national, racist, homophobic organizations operating or struggling to hang on. This is when they came into being and developed into blocs of today. It changed America completely and solidified the interests of these various powers or groups through Church, Publication,Lobby, Education and TV: that poses for history- emotion, for morality-popularity, for truth the spector of mass agreement or solidarity, and for fact repetition and repetition again as confirmation.
Exhibit #1: Leeor uses the now common journalistic technique that there can be a mass undocumented good which infers the rest – those not generalized in the story- are all bad.

Sometime in the 1960’s I joined ‘Women’s Strike For Peace’; I was a suburban housewife coming in from NJ to NYC with others; the organization was the first peace organization in existence; who were the other women, I was embarked on stopping the war, getting Bella Abzug elected, Shirley Chisohm, and I was the friend of anyone working for the same thing;

But in 1973 in the midst of the Yom Kippur War we had a luncheon and at the luncheon suddenly appeared the same activists virulently anti-Israel and on stage this time. And the division in the belly of contemporary Jewish Leftism, Israel, Karl Marx and the Palestinians spit into the clean napkins and was decided. I was furious about the exploitation of us Jewish women but not truely surprised; in the back of my mind I’d always known they were ‘Jewish’ women who worshipped a different god; we’d always been so intertwined with Communist uncles, neighbors, life, who took umbrage of these things? was there a Jew who didn’t cry for the Rosenbergs?

But this luncheon turned out to be a turning point a climax a split that was looking for action; I quickly wrote a petition and got signatures from among us guests. Women’s Strike for Peace didn’t last as a whole much longer; neither did the Women’s movement as an universalist institution…The Yom Kippur War destroyed whatever philosophy remained of our ideals. That All women are equal..there cannot different gods nor parties. And justice -Rape is the same for all women.

In other words, Women themselves chose politics, sides and war. From Martin Luther King’s universalism, we are all the children of the same god we became nationalists, racists- antisemitism is racism- Hitler, and Feminism became a political football.

What did NOW say about October 7th? Who defends us now?
