Everyone, on the left, the right, and the center, is going to hate parts of this blog post, but sometimes the whole truth must be stated clearly.
In Israel, court procedures against the destruction of illegally built homes can run over a decade and until the High Court. No one can lose their home just like that in Israel. Yet, evicted occupants often get a chance to present their grievances at length in Zionistic, Israeli news outlets.
After the drama, which always sells like hotcakes, we may find the authorities denying their narrative. It’s their word against theirs.
The truth is that what’s described by the disgruntled evicted is not possible in Israel. We have more lawyers than physicians (rough estimate), and any injustice will be battled out in court ad nauseam. I’m not saying that any Israeli court ruling must be perfect, but the High Court is always happy to intervene in home disputes, and they’re always on the side of the individual (unless they are right-wing extremist Jews).
The core problem is not just that these scenes make Israel look bad. A deeper evil is that it is also one of the worst violations of Jewish Law. Damaging the good name of Jews implies desecrating the good Name of the Good L^rd, which is a tremendously grave sin. You can’t say, ‘We’re in our right and who cares what others slander.’ Yes, let that sink in.
So, even when one does nothing wrong, but what you did reflects badly on the Jews, you have sinned! This commands us to be exceedingly careful with the impression we make as Jews.
Moses and Aharon did nothing wrong. Careful reading of the verses shows what did them in: they lost all respect from the People, which cost them entering the Holy Land! We only get the leaders we deserve.
Jewish zealots should finally and urgently take this to heart too. ‘They’ll hate us anyway’ is no excuse!
Now, Israel is a secular state with a Jewish veneer. Most of the works of the country are not beholden to follow Jewish Law.
However, Israeli authorities would be wise to follow Jewish Law here. Even when they are right to demolish any building, build your public case before you do it. Invite the media. Present the proofs. And when that is cemented, then have the lawful action take its course.
That can and will still be selectively misrepresented by anti-Zionist liars, but at least then you did what you could to prevent a wrong impression.

Like most of his readers, he believes in being friendly, respectful, and loyal. However, if you think those are his absolute top priorities, you might end up disappointed. Chronologically, his most influential teachers are his parents, Nico (natan) van Zuiden and Betty (beisye) Nieweg, Wim Kan, Mozart, Harvey Jackins, Marshal Rosenberg, Reb Shlomo Carlebach, and, lehavdil bein chayim lechayim, Rabbi Dr. Natan Lopes Cardozo, Rav Zev Leff, and Rav Meir Lubin. This short list doesn't mean to disrespect others who taught him a lot or a little. One of his rabbis calls him Mr. Innovation [Ish haChidushim]. Yet, his originalities seem to root deeply in traditional Judaism, though they may grow in unexpected directions. In fact, he claims he's modernizing nothing. Rather, mainly basing himself on the basic Hebrew Torah text, he tries to rediscover classical Jewish thought almost lost in thousands of years of stifling Gentile domination and Jewish assimilation.
