Liar Gonna Lie
If I was to say to you let’s start a contest. The only requirement for victory would be to answer one question. Can you build me the world’s most perfect liar? What will that person look like? I don’t mean face, body hair cheekbones, none of that. I mean what would their background be? What would their personal mission statement be? What would they have in common with other similar liars? What kind of facade would they wear to sell their dishonesty? Would it be faux erudite? Would it be highly educated? Would it just be someone uneducated who for instance, was a comedian so whatever he said could always be deflected with, “hey I’m just a comic?” Would they be Religiously driven? Secularly driven?
I suppose one could search for answers and build such a person by considering what characteristics they would need to make this perfect fraud the perfect one and take the time necessary to put in to excel at this project. For most it would entail deep thought and consideration. For me, not so much. I don’t feel the need to do any of that. I would simply enter Exhibit A and his name is Tucker Carlson.
As much as he disgusts me, his qualities are almost unassailable. He was on television for many years until he burnt each of those bridges from CNN to PBS, to MSNBC to FOX NEWS, so he comes with a certain perceived credibility of having been in people’s living rooms each night. He also has the advantage of never having to explain his positions in those slots other than on surface level, because his job was not to be honest or pretend to be non-partisan. It was to drive ratings which he did at different times in his career. He was famous for being the cute little guy with a bowtie when he started out and then morphed into this new voice of the people persona from some fake cabin in a fake outback somewhere.
But last week, he exposed himself and his modus operandi in an embarrassingly dishonest interview with the New York Times Magazine. While the interviewer comes from a certain political bent, I assume Carlson agreed to do the podcast because it was almost a safe space for his re-newed liberal coming out party. Before you ask if he considers himself a liberal, Carlson himself told Forbes Magazine years ago he was a liberal. The fact that he tried to sell his audience on his conservative bona fides when he’s basically been a registered democrat his entire adult life, is one of the core values of a quality liar. Tell them you are what you are not and say it convincingly and they will buy whatever you sell. Integrity be damned. Basketball referees are taught whatever call you make, right or wrong, sell it. Don’t ever let them see your doubt. Carlson is the ultimate salesman. The ultimate basketball referee.
His flip-flopping on President Trump is the kind of stuff books should be written about. In 1999 he said Trump was “the single most repulsive person on the planet.” In 2018 in that same interview with Forbes he said about Donald Trump “I honestly feel that most days I’m the only person in America that doesn’t think Trump is as interesting as Trump thinks he is.” During the voting booth company’s lawsuit against Fox News, a text from Carlson was unearthed from among the many which were consistent with his previous commentary. In the text message sent on Jan. 4, 2021, he wrote to a friend or colleague, “We are very, very close to being able to ignore Trump most nights. I truly can’t wait…I hate him passionately. … I can’t handle much more of this.” This is Carlson. Oh, but wait, no, this is Carlson:
Speaking at the Republican National Convention is 2024 he said, “When he stood up after being shot in the face, bloodied, and put his hand up, I thought, at that moment, that was a transformation. This was no longer a man. Well, I think that. I think it was divine intervention. But the effect that it had on Donald Trump, he was no longer just a political party’s nominee, or a former president, or a future president. This was the leader of a nation.”
He wasn’t done. Continuing on the assassination attempt he said, “This is the divisive figure? This is the irresponsible person? No. This is the most responsible, unifying behavior of a leader I think I’ve ever seen….And Donald Trump, whatever you say about him… And I think he’s a wonderful person. I know him well. By the way, the funniest person I’ve ever met in my life, actually.” Which brings us to his interview with the Times. When speaking of Trump last week he was reminded that on his show he once made the comment about the president, “Could this be the Antichrist?” A charge of course which he denied having never had those words pass through his mouth. His chameleon sycophants like Megyn Kelly thought he handled the interview expertly. Yes, a delusional liar would think that.
I would also add this one last point on his anti-christ claim. He says “In Revelation, the Antichrist is named in different —— Not just Revelation, but throughout the New Testament, there are references, and in the Prophets as well….and I know that I can’t define it, and it’s not clearly defined in the New Testament or Old Testament.” This is what happens when you talk out of the orifice you sit on and pretend you know what you’re talking about. Which Prophet would that be exactly? Name one place in the actual Torah please. Anyone? By the way, I can hear his response between his cackles, “I don’t know which ones but the prophets said so.”
“Which prophets exactly?”
“Well, I’m not a biblical scholar (cackle) but it’s there. I know it’s there. I read it.” (Cackle)
“It’s not in the prophets or the Torah, Tucker”
“I was told it was, maybe I am wrong but it’s beside the point.”
“I thought you said you read it?”
(cackle) “I did read it somewhere.” (cackle)
What Carlson deals in is small slivers of truth and then spins his yarn without disclosing context or intelligent fair assessments. Instead, he points his finger at his target and shoots then nonsensically defends his position because, he will tell you, he is holding power accountable. He saves his best lies for Israel and the Jewish people. While he complains vehemently he is not anti-Israel or antisemitic, his words and actions tell a very different story. Let’s start with this. When discussing the ongoing actions in Lebanon, Carlson responded, “OK, but they invaded Lebanon in 1982.” Wait a second. Can we have a little context here? Why did Israel invade Lebanon in the first place? On July 10, 1981, the PLO began shelling the north of Israel with Katyusha rockets and 130 mm artillery shells. The Israeli Air Force (IAF) retaliated with air raids, but failed to put a final end to these attacks. Just when Israel was about to extinguish the fire, the world stepped in and demanded a ceasefire on July 24, 1981. Despite many violations by the PLO of the ceasefire, the one that broke the camels back was June 3, 1982, when a terrorist cell tried to assassinate Israel’s ambassador to the UK, Shlomo Argov. The ambassador was severely wounded by a bullet that hit him in the head. Following the attack, he spent several months in a coma, and remained paralyzed until his death in 2003. Israel was left with no choice and that is why they invaded in 1982. Carlson never seems to remember the reasons or each time the world stops Israel from finishing the job. “That was 44 years ago. They’ve had a lot of time to fix Lebanon. They killed Nasrallah, they blew up Hezbollah with explosive pagers. They’ve done a lot since Oct. 7 in Lebanon. They (meaning Israel) chose that moment to derail the negotiations. And they’ve done this repeatedly.”
Again, more disinformation. Carlson fails to mention Hezbollah attacked Israel on October 8th. Israel had done nothing yet in Gaza or anywhere else as they were still calculating the damage from October 7th. Don’t let that get in the way of the liars narrative. In fact I cannot find one time in his entire life while in the public eye where Carlson called for Israel to finish the job its enemies started. In fact, he has argued just the opposite. The reason Hezbollah is still a problem is people like Carlson opening their uneducated big mouths and calling for Israel to be reigned in. “Take your beatings like a man!” The Liar also fails to put the current fighting in Lebanon in context. Hezbollah decided they were going to join with Iran and bombed the north of Israel. The Jewish state had no interest in staring again in Lebanon until the jihadis attacked. Once that happened Israel chose to set the terms. If Tucker doesn’t like that, let him talk to his Islamist friends and have them and their money correct it.
He goes on: “Yeah, one of our conditions is Israel’s got to pull back from southern Lebanon. (Israel was very clear even before negotiations between the US and Iran this was not the case) You can’t use the Iran war as a pretext for stealing more land from a sovereign country that’s not your country. And it’s not just Iran who felt that way. I think the rest of the world is like, What are you doing? I thought we were fighting the great existential threat, Iran. And now you’re taking the opportunity to take Lebanon’s shore, the Litani River, and bombing downtown Beirut. What is this?”
What this is asshat is FAFO. Israel was at war with Iran. Why did Hezbollah attack Israel at that point? Does he mention this at all? The constant bombing of Israel’s northern cities by Hezbollah without provocation? No, the Liar says Israel is using this as a pre-text to steal land and kill civilians. What the hell are you talking about? An honest broker would surmise maybe Hezbollah should have stayed away from Israel and not rattle the cage. We are not taking anyone’s land. We are protecting our own and since that same world that he said was so incredulous did nothing to fix the problem, Israel decided it was time for them to do it. Relying on the world has always been a huge failure of the Jewish people; a lesson we seem to never learn. The response to this charge is an easy one. I wrote about it here: https://haroldkatz1.substack.com/p/you-had-twenty-years-to-fix-it-move
I can go on about this charlatan for tens of thousands of more words, but I will keep it to this one last point because I believe it exposes his true nature and intent. “I think what we’re seeing is evil. Are you allowed to kill people who’ve committed no crime? No. Super simple. You’re not allowed to do that. Under no moral standard is that allowable…It’s not fine. It’s repugnant to the Christian understanding of the world and the human soul. Every person has a soul. That’s the Christian view, and not just the Christian view, it’s the Islamic view, too. And it’s my view.
Read it again and look at what he is inferring here. I agree with him evil is happening in Gaza and has been ever since Hamas was elected in 2007 though it was happening before as well. I wonder, when Tucker was interviewing Vladimir Putin while he was at war with Ukraine, did he mention this to him? Did this brave tough talking man of the people who speaks with such confidence to the New York Times have the guts to say to Putin “Are you allowed to kill people who’ve committed no crime?” Where you at tough guy? Instead he let Putin drone on about the righteousness of his war. No mention of the killing of innocents, no mention of stealing land, which is Putins stated intent by the way, no mention of having two years to finish the war they have lost the moral high ground on. None of that. He couldn’t even muster the backbone to challenge Putin with follow-ups the way he did Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee. What a coward. And FYI Tucker, your interview with Putin exposes your antisemitism and a more intelligent person would understand exactly how.
Back to the above quote. The Christian view is every person has a soul? And the Muslim view is every person has a soul? His inference in his coded Jew-hating language is that the Jews do not believe every person has a soul. Let me be the first to point out the irony of his stupidity. Christianity and Islam who both have a private club where only the souls of their believers are allowed in, but the Jews, who have no such requirement except to follow the seven nohadite laws, do not believe every human has a soul? Does this make any sense to a thinking person?
Robert Spencer weighed in on this idea as well. “Carlson includes a kernel of truth in his lies and deflections, and that makes them all the more insidious. Like Christianity, Islam does indeed teach that “every person has a soul.” But the Qur’an also teaches that non-Muslims are “like cattle, no, they are worse.” (7:179) It says that non-Muslims are “the most vile of created beings” (98:6), and calls them “the worst of animals” (8:55).
I really could go on and on, but I don’t want to get too lost in the weeds here. However I do want to address the recent newest Islamist fan club member who also lacks integrity with a forked tongue. This was Megyn Kelly in January as I am sure you have probably seen by now. “Islam is not consistent with the values of America, of the West. They should stay in countries that don’t care about keeping church and state separated. They should stay in countries that don’t care about protecting free speech. They should stay in countries that don’t care about women’s rights. That’s where Islam can fester and grow. It’s great. I mean, I’m sure if that’s like your thing and you don’t care about like genital mutilation, you might really enjoy living in an Islamic country. If you don’t mind living in a life as woman where you have to keep every inch of your body except for your eyeballs covered, yeah, someplace in the Middle East could be for you. It’s not my thing. It’s not America’s thing. And it’s not a thing that we should want or encourage in the West.”
She continued, “There’s no such thing as Islamophobia. You are not only entitled to, quote, fear Islam. I would argue it’s your duty as Christian to stand up and fight against it. It not consistent with the values of the West or America, and therefore you have no problem. You should have no problem standing up against it.”
Last week, however, Kelly inferred the exact opposite. Speaking about Carlson she said, “I think he’s understanding there may be some new listeners over here. He’s gotten very, popular lately, I read, with Muslim viewers because he’s been standing up for Islam. You know, and I have to tell you, Mark, it’s been something I’ve noticed just since I’ve gotten a sort of more clear-eyed on Israel, that a lot of the anti-Muslim rhetoric that’s put out there originates with people who are very, pro-Israel who kind of need us to demonize them. And I’ve taken a look recently at my own rhetoric on this to say, like, have I been manipulated?”
Let me help the gutless podcaster. According to Fondapol.org from 2013 until April 2024 there have 56,413 Islamist terrorist attacks in the world leading to 204,937 deaths. I don’t want to put a chink in the armor of Megyn or Tucker’s new love for Islam, but I and finding it quite difficult to think it’s the Jews or cChristian zionists fault for your opinions on Muslims. I’m not sure the eight Jewish attackers-almost all in taking place in Israel-since the early nineties can compete. But it’s the pro-Israel crowd who is manipulating Kelly, not the 56,000 muslim terrorist incidents. I warn anyone willing to point this out to her to be prepared for the inevitable F-you response from the eloquent former tv host. What these Jew-hating podcasters who pound their religious chests fail realize is they are fulfilling the words of the prophets spoken thousands of years ago that are alive and real today. “For, behold, I make thee small among the nations, and despised among men.” (Jeremiah 49:15) Tell me, who but Israel and the Jewish people all around the world could the prophet possibly be talking about? I appreciate these Liars more and more every day.
I will have to write more on these fakers soon enough so stay tuned. Until then pay attention to the words between the lines. Liars like Carlson leave their most insidious opinions for the empty spaces over there.
Lucky for me, I know how to read Liar.
