Libertarians Feel ‘Betrayed’ By Rand Paul
Guess who's a big spending liberal responsible for Obamacare and is running for President.
Here's a hint: it's not Barack Obama.
It's Republican Mitt Romney, according to the Libertarian Party, and they're mad at Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky), the son of their idol, for endorsing and approving "the Father of Obamacare, Big Government tax and spender, Republican Mitt Romney."
The junior senator from Kentucky, who may be the most prominent Tea Party followers in the Senate, announced this week that since his father, a former candidate of the Libertarian Party who ran this year as a Republican, wasn't about to get the nomination he is backing his second choice, Romney.
It may not seem like much of a kerfuffle but its no secret that Rand is thinking of making his own White House run (dad said this was his last try and he's also retiring from Congress) and he will want the GOP to see him as a loyal player who represents the party's Tea Party wing, where Romney is weak.
Say it ain't so, pleads the Libertarian Party. "[N]o true libertarian, no true friend of liberty, and no true blue Tea Partier could possibly even consider, much less actually endorse or approve of, the Father of Obamacare, Big Government tax and spender, Republican Mitt Romney," declared a party press release.
Rand has "no excuse" for having betrayed his father's "core values" by making "a devil’s deal with Big Government Mitt Romney" who has demonstrated "his willingness to sell out his supporters."
Libertarians have nominated former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson, who tried to run initially as a Republican but no one noticed so he dropped out in late 2011 to run as a Libertarian. If elected he will be the only president ever to climb Mt. Everest, a feat that will prove easier for Johnson than getting to the Oval Office.
