Like Father, Like Son

Father Binyamin Netanyahu and son Yair Netanyahu share the same disease. It is commonly known as foulmouthitis. It is not known if father got it from son or son from father.

There is only a slight difference in their common disease. Son Yair has a filthy mouth. Father Binyamin has a lying mouth.

Our prime minister showed his true colors on the day in which he appeared before three justices in the Jerusalem Criminal Court.

At once, he began attacking the judges and defaming the court. He accused them of supporting his enemies whom he accused of plotting a revolt, a political coup, to remove him from his office. He put blame on his Likud right-wing party members. Everyone, he said, was guilty. Only he was not !!

I, like millions of my fellow Israelis, are ashamed of his disrespectful words uttered in blatant anger and hostility before the judges on the bench who were fulfilling their sworn obligations to the High Court.

Did he stop to think before his foul words how they might affect the decisions of his trial? Millions of people around the world are distancing themselves from the Israeli prime minister… not a social distance from the dreaded coronavirus but rather a political distance from an accused and indicted criminal.

The only temporary friend among the world’s leaders is the American president Donald John Trump. And in six months we cannot know if the friendship with a not-too-popular Republican leader will continue.

One thing that we do know for a certainty is that if Joe Biden wins the Democratic vote for the White House it will be a very different White House, one that will be less pleasing to Israel.

Joe Biden has already indicated his opposition to annexation of Judea-Samaria and Jordan Valley lands which have been legally promised to a future Palestinian State, one to which Netanyahu is 100% opposed. It is also possible that a Democratic president could move the U.S. embassy back to Tel-Aviv.

With a Democratic president in the USA, Netanyahu, if he is still our prime minister (hopefully not) will be unable to receive the political delicacies which he had received and treasured from Donald Trump.

The appearance of Netanyahu in the criminal case before the High Court justices has made international defamation accusing Netanyahu of disrespecting the judges, the court, the media, and the police.

Now the Israel Police force has also joined in the condemnation of our prime minister. I wonder, if and when he is hopefully found guilty on all counts, will the police escort him out of the court in handcuffs?

Why not? Is he any different from other convicted criminals? A photo of him in handcuffs will please millions of Israelis, Jews and Arabs alike, and will shame son Yair and mother Sara all their life.

Reading the international media and watching BBC and CNN television news in addition to our own channel 12 with Rafi Reshef, it does not look like a happy turn of events for the indicted criminal.

As one Israeli told me today, “Bibi has only brought disgrace and shame (busha v’cherpa) upon himself and our country in the eyes of the entire world. He acts like a Berlasconi”.

And another misguided Israeli remarked “it is just like the trial of Alfred Dreyfus”.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Dreyfus, after being falsely accused of treason and sentenced to a life on Devils Island, was ultimately freed due to an article written to the President of France. In the leading Paris newspaper, L’Aurore, the famous writer, Emile Zola wrote “J’accuse”… “I accuse the president of the Republic of France for falsely imprisoning an innocent man”, on 13 January 1898.

Netanyahu has no Emile Zola to plead his innocence. And the reason why is because he is not innocent.

The one good thing that came out of the infamous Dreyfus trial other than his freedom, was the beginning of the future birth of the Jewish State of Israel.

The Paris correspondent for the Vienna newspaper Neue Freie Presse was none other than Theodor Herzl who covered the trial. He, in his article, wrote of the cries of the crowds.. “Dreyfus is a Jew. Dreyfus is a traitor. All Jews are traitors. La Mort Aux Juifs” (Death to the Jews).

These fiery words set Herzl into motion. If France, the most liberal country on the European continent could be so anti-semitic, Herzl was moved to organize the world Zionist organization.

In Basel, Switzerland at the Zionist Congress Herzl made the following rousing declaration:

“Heute hab ich der Judenstaat gegrundet”. Today I have founded the Jewish state ! 50 years before the State of Israel was re-born in its ancient homeland.

In the trial of Binyamin Netanyahu we can only say “you have shamed our nation in the eyes of the world”.

Netanyahu’s grievous acts can not be washed away. Neither his very disrespectful words. He should set a better example to his disgraceful son.

A former prime minister, Ehud Olmert, informed him to get used to a life in prison.

Because, said Olmert, that’s where he is going. And Olmert knows because he had been imprisoned for his own selfish greedy involvement with the Holyland affair and with much bribe money from Talansky.

An Israeli tragedy. Where and when will it end? When can the good name of Medinat Yisrael be restored?

First things first. First we get rid of coronavirus in our country. Then we find a cure for the terrible disease of foulmouthitis !
