Living on an Irrational Plain

For the last year, comic Dave Smith has attacked Israel at every turn. A frequent guest on shows like Piers Morgan and Joe Rogan, Mr. Smith consistently blasts Israel for the Gaza war, becoming one of the “go to” interviews for people who oppose the Jewish State.

Following the murder of Charlie Kirk, however, and to his eternal credit, Smith called out the ridiculous assertions from Candace Owens, Max Blumenthal and others that Israel and the Mossad were behind Kirk’s killing. Despite substantial online pressure from many of his traditional supporters, Smith has consistently noted that there is no evidence of Israeli involvement and that such claims make no sense.  https://x.com/amyisraelchai_x/status/1966408330085024009?s=46

Smith has been joined in that refusal to go down the rabbit hole of conspiracy theories by Morgan and certain others. All appear shocked at how quickly such theories sprung up and how foolish they appear. Ironically, the Kirk murder may result in a realignment of sorts, with intelligent critics like Smith and Morgan finally distancing themselves completely from antisemites like Owens and Bassem Youssef.  https://x.com/osint613/status/1968258586133557646?s=46.

If nothing else, the aftermath to the Kirk assassination has shown the differences between living as a Jew and living as anyone else. The lives of Smith, Morgan and most others exist on a rational plain. Gentiles can be Russian, British, Chinese, etc. yet know that while there are other people and places that dislike them, on the whole they can go about their lives as they see fit.

Jewish lives are completely different. We exist in the world of irrationality. While Judaism does not possess the concept of original sin, we are the ones who suffer from it. As soon as a Jewish baby exits the womb, he/she is tagged with being Jewish, meaning being different and subject to all sorts of indignities for no other reason than that – being Jewish.

No other group finds itself so consistently demonized or purposely excepted from the norms of the world.  A decade after the “Me Too” movement began, the cries of Israeli women were ignored following October 7, 2023.  Only Jews are subjected to college “encampments” where they often were not allowed in or even allowed to pass through.  International legal concepts like “apartheid” and “genocide” are perverted solely to demonize the one Jewish state. Celebrities like Javier Bardem ignore real genocides in places like Sudan and Yemen just so they can criticize Israel at the Emmy Awards and demand a boycott of Israeli artists and companies.  The LGBTQ movement ignores that fact that Israel is the only place in the Middle East that accepts them and instead throws its support behind people who literally will kill them.

None of this makes rational sense.  The only common thread seems to be that because Jews are involved, the world feels safe in demonizing them.

If people like Dave Smith and Piers Morgan have difficulty understand why Israelis and Diaspora Jews don’t see the world the way the EU does, perhaps now they will understand that Jews don’t inhabit the same world the EU does.  Following World War II millions of Europeans were thrown out of their homes and resettled in other lands, yet eighty years later that is considered ancient history.  Not so for the Jews, who are accused of expelling Palestinians from their homes (which not only is just partially true but ignores the Jews expelled from Arab lands) and told the Jews must give up their state to redress this perceived wrong.  After waiting 2,000 years to reestablish a Jewish State, we Jews will never just give it up, no matter what the Norwegians, Irish or Spanish say.  That fact alone gives many an excuse to treat Israel as a pariah, no matter what Israel does or Israel is.

Gentiles often fail to understand the visceral reactions Jews have when nominally Jewish figures like Bernie Sanders accuse Israel of genocide, twisting that important legal concept beyond recognition. Again, it is because they inhabit a different universe. In their world, criticism by anyone connected with the group is unlikely to be seized upon by those who wish the group ill or used as a justification for every indignity possible, up to and including mass murder. In our world, this has happened countless times throughout history.

Let’s give Dave Smith, Piers Morgan and other like them much credit for standing up to the idiocy of blaming Israel for Charlie Kirk’s murder. Perhaps we can hope that through this horrible act, and its bizarre aftermath, they begin to see that our lives are lived on a different plain than theirs. In our lives and existence rationality has little impact and the Hun really is always knocking at the door.
